Book Summary
The last thing Amelia Kennington wants is to participate in the London Season. But the daughter of a duke is not afforded such opinions. She must put forth a subdued facade, but beneath it is a well-hidden fire that surfaces only when provoked—such as when an overly familiar gentleman startles her and she falls into the Serpentine.

Edward Drayton, the Earl of Norwich, has gained a reputation as Society’s most decorated rake. And while there are benefits to such a reputation, it no longer gives him the satisfaction it once did. This Season, he plans to find a wife—except she seems to find him instead. And she is nothing like he expected.

Scandal is inevitable following Edward and Amelia’s ill-conceived meeting, forcing them to marry. Amelia’s disdain for this man she hardly knows is more than clear, and Edward’s pride is wounded before their marriage has even truly begun. Yet, against all odds, the two slowly let their guard down, discovering the truth of who they married. But when Society gossip, a sister’s jealousy, and long-held secrets threaten their budding relationship, the unlikely couple must determine if their unconventional love is strong enough to withstand the opposition they face.

My Review
Edward and Amelia is the newest book by author Karen Thornell. This Regency romance is one I liked a lot. The main characters are ones that I became attached to right from the start. They become a victim of unfortunate events leading to scandal and they soon find themselves engaged.

Amelia is such a sympathetic character. She has sisters, especially one named Edith, that treat her horribly, and a father that basically ignores her. She bears terrible scars from an accident that happened when she was 12 years old. Amelia's self-confidence has been shattered and this forced marriage doesn't help with that at all. Edward is a so-called "rake" that has a bad reputation in society and bringing these two together would seem to be a recipe for disaster.

One thing I liked in this novel is how well readers get to know the main characters. Thornell always does a fantastic job of creating characters that bring out a lot of emotions in readers. Believe me when I say that you greatly dislike the nasty sister Edith and her friend, Miss Brooks, that persecute poor Amelia. You also want to reach out and hug both Edward and Amelia as they go through the somewhat painful and awkward process of getting to know one another that eventually could lead to love.

This love story of forced marriage leading to love is well-written, full of emotion, and is a clean romance. Edward and Amelia is the perfect summer read for readers looking for a romance with characters to cheer for and villains to hate. This novel is a great read that I recommend for older teens and adults.

****Meet Author Karen Thornell****
Karen Thornell grew up reading when she should have been sleeping, but it wasn't until 2019 that she started writing. Tired of ending books and saying 'goodbye' to beloved characters, she wondered what it would be like to have her own characters that lived in her head always. It was probably a mark of sleep deprivation that she wanted people living in her head, but the idea was planted regardless.

Karen lives in Utah with her husband and kids. When not writing contemporary or regency romance, she spends her free time doing endless loads of laundry, playing board games, and, yes, talking to those characters in her head.
