Book Description:
Undercover agent Omar Zagouri has been ordered to Giza. A prominent Egyptologist was murdered, and a priceless artifact—the only complete version of the Book of the Dead—is missing. Omar is still reeling from the recent disappearance of his girlfriend, Mia Golding, but he puts his quest to find her on hold to track down the lost piece of history.

Omar’s mission is not just to locate the sacred book; he must also rescue the two archaeologists kidnapped and forced to translate its hieroglyphics under threat of death. Their kidnapper is determined to discover the text’s rumored explosive revelation: that Moses did not receive the Ten Commandments from God but instead copied them from the Egyptians. Though Omar’s need to find Mia grows more urgent, he must focus on finding the enemy who will stop at nothing to ignite a controversy that will change history, and the world, forever.

My Review:
Lost King turned out to be a fantastic book! I really liked Finding Sheba, the first book in this series and this next book I liked even better. H.B. Moore has a way of combining several stories in different timelines and making everything fit together so smoothly. This is why she is one of my favorite authors.

This book once again centers around undercover agent Omar Zagouri and his girlfriend Mia Golding. It's several months after where Finding Sheba left off. They are pulled into another mystery where stolen scrolls and a murder send them off on another mission. They both still take risks that keep you breathless. We also meet two new characters  Farrah Samra a professor of Egyptology and her colleague Dr. Kale Naji. All four of these people are pulled into the investigation of the missing scrolls and what is on the scrolls that could change the face of modern religion.

The best part of the book to me was the story about Egyptian Princess Hatshepsut, an unknown woman to most people in history, but is now known to have been a Pharaoh of Egypt. Her story was so fascinating to me! Hatshe's story also held the most emotion as she struggled between the two things in her life: love and power. Even though she loved Thut, she had a hard time letting herself love him and not wanting to give up her independence or her right to the throne. Their story was a great one full of love, but also of tragedy. What happened to her legacy after her death almost made me cry. You'll have to read to find out why Hatshe was unknown and there was so much mystery surrounding this great woman.

Overall this story is action packed, with romance in modern times, and a drama filled historical story of a woman of courage, determination, loyalty and love for her people. I read this book quickly as the small cliffhangers at the end of the chapters kept me turning the pages and reading as fast as I could.

***This book is for mature adults as there are incidences of  mild-moderate violence with shootings, beatings, kidnapping etc. in this thriller. There is heavy kissing, innuendo of marital relations, harem life, but nothing graphic.***

The Fall of Lord Drayson

The Fall of Lord Drayson

Who is he really? A high and mighty Lord, or a lowly servant? When Colin Cavendish, the new earl of Drayson, informs Lucy Beresford that she and her mother have two months to vacate the house they've called home for the past two years, Lucy is fit to be tied. They have no money, no relations they can turn to for help, and nowhere to go. How dare the earl break the promise his father had made to the Beresfords without so much as a twinge of conscience? Mere hours later, Lucy discovers the earl unconscious and injured in the middle of the road. Grudgingly, she takes him into her home to tend to his wounds, but when he awakens with no recollection of who he is, Lucy seizes the opportunity to teach a much-needed lesson in humility. Pushing her own twinge of conscience aside, she informs the earl of Drayson that he is nothing more than a mere servant. Her servant, in fact. Finding Sheba (An Omar Zagouri Thriller) by H.B. Moore-Review

Product Details

  • Title: Finding Sheba
  • Author: H.B. Moore
  • Series: An Omar Zagouri Thriller
  • Paperback: 416 pages
  • Publisher: Thomas & Mercer (February 3, 2015)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1477821422
  • FTC, FYI: I was given a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Book Description:
For centuries, historians have speculated that the Queen of Sheba is nothing more than a seductive legend; but when undercover agent Omar Zagouri finds a tomb in a tunnel beneath Jerusalem, he unearths cryptic clues that may lead to the queen’s final resting place.

This discovery, if authentic, could throw into question the governmental claim to the Holy Land—and prove the Bible false. Wealthy collectors, ruthless archaeologists, and officials from Egypt, Ethiopia, Israel, and Yemen scramble to find and lay claim to the secret site.

Dr. Richard Lyon of Brown University, the world’s leading expert on the queen, is found murdered in his office, setting off a chain of deadly events. Omar desperately works to piece together the puzzle to locate the queen’s burial ground, fearing another assassination will take place. He teams up with one of Lyon’s protĂ©gĂ©es as well as with his ex-girlfriend, agent Mia Golding, in order to unravel the truth about the queen, expose a murderer, and reveal a timeless story of love, revenge, and sacrifice.

My Review:
I realized I had read Finding Sheba awhile ago and had never posted my review. I am reviewing the next book in this series on Friday, so I thought I had better get the first book reviewed.

I will warn you Finding Sheba is not a light read. It has many POV's (Points of View) and a lot of historical facts and many details concerning research. I loved these aspects of the book. If you do not like multiple POV's, this book may not be for you. I love history and love to learn new ideas about someone or something in the past. This novel also had a lot of action taking place in many different areas. It takes place in the Middle East as many people are hunting for Queen Sheba's burial place. Many different political and religious factions want to be the one to find the Queen and her tomb. I've read others' reviews of the book saying it reminded them of The Davinci Code.  In many ways I would have to agree. You are pulled into the story and cataloging all of the clues right along with the characters.

Speaking of the characters, one of my favorite was undercover agent Omar Zagouri who is smart, brave and does what needs to be done regardless of his own safety. Omar is a great blend of many action heroes and someone I'm so excited to keep reading more books about him and his adventures. I was always excited when a chapter would come up next with his POV. His girlfriend Mia is also an undercover agent, and they are estranged and have a lot to work out. They keep getting interrupted by people trying to kill them.

The other character I truly loved reading about was the Queen of Sheba herself, Nicaula. She is the strongest female character in the book, and she is a teenager. I have to admit my favorite chapters were the ones telling Nicaula's story. Her story is also one full of sadness and sacrifice, but shows her strength as she endures hardships and rules her country. I could  have read a whole book of just her life and been very satisfied.

Finding Sheba is a thrilling read that will keep you involved in the story of present day and the past. The story is brought to life by great writing and a plot that twists and turns from the beginning to the end.

***There is some violence with war scenes and other actions, and some kissing; but no sex. This book is an Adult Suspense Novel.***

Book Description:
Life is more than just breathing.

Kylee Mansfield knows what it is to be alone. Her dad left when she was seven, and her mother remarried an abusive alcoholic. Kylee finds ways to escape reality, usually by substituting one pain for another.

Things take a deadly turn when a jagged cut shows up on her arm, and she doesn't know where it came from. She enlists her neighbor, Price Hudson, to help her uncover the truth. But Price shows her much more than just her past—he shows her what it is to be alive.

Excerpt from Lay Me Down:
Kylee leaned against her bedroom door, her heart beating erratically. Even from here, she could hear Bill swearing and yelling in the living room. She squeezed her eyes shut. Why was he still going on? He should have forgotten about her by now.

“Please stay in the other room. Please stay in the other room,” she chanted to herself. She glanced down at her throbbing arm, noting the small rivulet of blood collecting in the corner of her elbow.

Her mom’s shouting mingled with Bill’s, and something large crashed into a wall. The single-story house rattled as Bill’s thundering footsteps approached.

“Kylee!” he roared, the full extent of his fury echoing in the one word.

She whimpered. Her eyes landed on the chair scooted against the wooden desk next to the closet. She lunged for it, intent on propping it under the doorknob like she had so many times in the past.

Barely had she vacated her spot by the door before it banged open, slamming into the opposite wall with its force. Kylee shrieked and spun around.

“I’m sorry,” she sputtered, her hands splayed out in front of her for protection. “I should have stayed out of it. I—”

He cut the rest of her apology off with a left hook to her jaw. Kylee stumbled backwards and went down to her knees, a little surprised she hadn’t seen that coming. Bill was angrier than usual.

My Review:
I must preface this review by saying first: this review may be vague in what I can tell you about the story. The reason why is, I absolutely do not want to ruin the story for you. This book is so far one of the best I've read this year in 2016. It has a little of everything in it: romance, mystery, and supernatural. Quite a combination wouldn't you say?

The story starts with us looking at the world through main character Kylee's eyes. Her life is not easy. She lives with her browbeaten, druggie mom, and abusive stepfather Bill, in a rundown home. Kylee doesn't go to public school anymore and is always in fear of her life because of Bill's explosive temper. Kylee is cut off from her few friends and the rest of the world. She feels like she is non-existent and no one cares. To help her deal with the pain in her life she cuts herself.

It is amazing to me how this story is told so beautifully in such an ugly situation, but Author Tamara Hart Heiner is able to do so. You are pulled into Kylee's world of emotional pain, verbal and physical abuse, and her longing to be loved. You will be mesmerized like I was as this story unfolds. This is one of those stories that you won't be able to put down. You'll be reading as fast as you can to figure out the many mysterious things that start occurring in Kylee's life.

The story brightens a bit when Kylee's cute, new neighbor, Price Hudson, starts talking to her. He's hesitant at first because of his own heartache he's living through, but soon he can't stay away from Kylee. Price soon shows her that the world can be a brighter and more loving place. They also form a friendship that can't be broken. The two teens are quickly pulled into a supernatural world where they work together to figure something very important out. Price is a wonderful character that you will like because of his kindness and loyalty.

As you figure out what is truly going on, the tension in the story does not die down, it only builds. Time is running out for the mystery to be solved and both Kylee and Price are in danger. With the help of a Medium, Madame Humphrey, the story finally comes to an end with a shocking revelation. I was left with a feeling of contentment at the end, though the ride getting there was full of angst. This is a must read and I think I heard there may be a sequel. I hope it is true!

**I read this book with my teen daughter and we had some good discussions along the way. The story is for older teens and adults. There is some violence, blood, and mild gore within the book.**

 Book Description:
Steven had never thought about where the Loch Ness monster or Big Foot came from until he found an old stone box with a secret beyond his wildest imagination. Unsure what to do about his discovery, Steven confides in the one perso
n he shouldn’t—one who is willing to do anything to have the box . . . even kill.

My Review:
Dumpsters & Dinosaurs is a perfect read for the 8-12 year old crowd. It is full of excitement, mystery and magic. The main character is Steven, a new kid who lives in Vernal, Utah whose family just moved there from Idaho.

There is much in this story for kids to relate to; bullies in the school, not always having enough money to buy the clothes you want, and having a hard time making friends and finding his place in the new town.

His family is short on money, so the whole family works together cleaning buildings to make money to live on. One of the buildings they clean is the field house in Vernal. The museum is where all of the mystery starts taking place. Steven finds all sorts of things, a body in a dumpster(thankfully it's still alive), a mysterious box and other things. Soon, Steven is way too involved but luckily finds friends: a boy at school and a home-schooled girl from the public library, odd like him, that help him solve the mystery of what's been going on at the field house.

Kids in the 8-12 year range will love to read this short 180 page book. They will understand the humor and the narration is written in easily understood words. Lois Brown perfectly caught the characterization of a 12 year old boy. This book is fun and will be enjoyed by both boys and girls.

Her first book, "Virulent: The Release" was born from a challenge issued by her students to write a book that would interest them. She is a fan of: Spanx, bourbon, Powell’s Books, and tabloid magazines. Shelbi lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, her two sons, Elliott and Ike, and an affectionate hound dog named Darby. Website graphic Praise for Virulent: The Release “My favorite part was how realistic and authentic Wescott is about to make her characters. It is clear from the specific detail and the way she shapes her setting that Wescott knows her way around a high school. She also knows a thing or two about teenage minds.” -- Underground Book Reviews “Great characters, amazing descriptions, suspense and the beginnings of a great conspiracy mark this beginning to a series that I look forward to following. I can’t wait for book two.” -- Cherie of Cherie Reads

Henley." -- Sarah Cloots, former editor at Greenwillow Books, imprint of HarperCollins Children's Books "The prose flows smoothly and easily but there are much deeper issues lying beneath the surface of the story that are captivating and will hold the interest of readers of any age . . . I was quickly transported into the world of The Scourge and plummeted breathlessly toward the resolution. This is a very good book and a good look at just what science fiction can achieve when in the hands of a capable writer." -- Josef Hernandez, Examiner "Lovable and relatable heroine? Check. Swoon-worthy, kick-butt hero? Check. Compelling romance that makes your heart melt and toes curl? Check. Captivating story and fascinating world? Check. Eagerly anticipating the next book? Born and raised in Michigan, Nicole lives there still with her husband and two wonderful children. When not answering the demands of her characters, Nicole can often be found curled up with a good book or spending far too many hours acting the hero in whatever video game is her obsession of the moment. Nicole rarely meets a genre she doesn't like, and as a result has written contemporary romcoms, fantasy fiction, fairy tale retellings, and dystopian/post-apocalyptic fiction. She's the author of the Fairytale Collection books, the YA/NA crossover Contributor trilogy, and the Astoran Asunder series. Very intense story line with a daunting theme. This is a great read and I can not wait to see what happens in book 2. -- LadyLox Mindblowingly good. This book is brilliantly constructed. -- Kelly Walker

the torturer's daughter Aa2 The Torturer's Daughter by Zoe Cannon When her best friend Heather calls in the middle of the night, Becca Dalcourt assumes it’s the usual drama. Wrong. Heather’s parents have been arrested as dissidents – and Becca’s mother, the dystopian regime’s most infamous torturer, has already executed them for their crimes against the state. To stop Heather from getting herself killed trying to prove her parents’ innocence, Becca hunts for proof of their guilt. She doesn’t expect to find evidence that leaves her questioning everything she thought she knew about the dissidents… and about her mother. When she risks her life to save a dissident, she learns her mother isn’t the only one with secrets – and the plot she uncovers will threaten the lives of the people she loves most. For Becca, it’s no longer just a choice between risking execution and ignoring the regime’s crimes; she has to decide whose life to save and whose to sacrifice. It’s easy to be a hero when you can save the world, but what about when all you can do is choose how you live in it? The Torturer’s Daughter is a story about ordinary life amidst the realities of living under an oppressive regime… and the extraordinary courage it takes to do what’s right in a world gone wrong.   amazon get it ZoeAuthor Zoe Cannon Zoe Cannon writes about the things that fascinate her: outsiders, societies no sane person would want to live in, questions with no easy answers, and the inner workings of the mind. If she couldn't be a writer, she would probably be a psychologist, a penniless philosopher, or a hermit in a cave somewhere. While she'll read anything that isn't nailed down, she considers herself a YA reader and writer at heart. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband and a giant teddy bear of a dog, and spends entirely too much time on the internet. Website graphic Praise for The Torturer's Daughter "...a great read that plays with your nerves and sets great challenges before its characters..." -- Willing to See Less "The society created by the author is incredibly oppressive and realistic in all its horror." -- Le Chat de Bibliotheque "My day stopped in its tracks once I picked up this novel, racing frantically towards the conclusion and the answers I needed to have." -- Bookluvrs Haven ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Heartbeat Thief The Heartbeat Thief by Ash Krafton Haunted by a crushing fear of death, a young Victorian woman discovers the secret of eternal youth—she must surrender her life to attain it, and steal heartbeats to keep it. Poe meets Austen in this haunting tale of death and endless devotion… Being the most beautiful debutante in 1860’s Surrey isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Senza Fyne knows all too well the expectations set upon a young Victorian woman—and she also knows that, in one fell swoop, death can just whisk it all away. When she meets the mysterious and mystical Mr. Knell, she is offered the chance to escape the chains of Life and Death and to enjoy the bliss of youth and beauty for all eternity. But that takes magic…and a steep price. She’d have to surrender her life to gain an eternity and she’d have to steal the heartbeats of others in order to keep it. She has everything to gain if she succumbs to his spell…but knows not what she might lose. It’s a little bit Jane Austen, a little bit Edgar Allan Poe, and a whole lot of stealing heartbeats in order to stay young and beautiful forever. From the posh London season to the back alleys of Whitechapel, across the Channel, across the Pond, across the seas of Time…How far will Senza Fyne go to avoid Death? amazon get it A.J.Author A.J. Crafton The Heartbeat Thief is the first release for AJ Krafton, a New Adult speculative fiction author from the Pennsylvania coal region. If she’s not writing, it’s probably because she’s distracted by all the cool junk on her desk or by the stacks of books that have grown up around it. She also writes novels, short fiction, and poetry for adult audiences as Ash Krafton. Website graphic Praise for The Heartbeat Thief "It’s a supernatural story, but it doesn’t rely on the conventions and themes that have gone before it. To be honest, when I picked it up I was expecting witches and/or vampires, but I found something else entirely. I loved the story and the concept." "True to its word, "The Heartbeat Thief" is part Jane Austen, part Edgar Allen Poe. The author revives the best of the style of writing found in the classics: the introspect of characters, lovely allusions comparing characters to nature and life, beautiful alliteration and prose. Mixed with this is a deep foreboding of death, a macabre sensation that follows Senza throughout the story." "Beautiful imagery and language shape this intriguing story that spoke to me about the meaning of maturity and purpose in life.
