My Review

Danger Unknown was a very intense book where Brooke and her daughter, Izzy, are running from a murderer. You can feel the tension from Brooke as she is desperately trying to save herself and her daughter. This is great writing when you feel just as anxious as the characters. There are many unanswered questions that slowly are revealed as the novel moves along at a fast pace.

I really loved main character Michael, a vet with PTSD from his service in Iraq. He's now living the life of a cowboy in Montana raising therapy horses and boy does he fill those cowboy boots really well. His heart is big and he can't help but jump in to help Brooke and Izzy. Some of my favorite moments in the book were between Michael and Izzy, as he tries to help the young girl through a traumatic experience by introducing her to a special horse. I also want to give a shout out to Michael's friend Cap and his wife Little Bear Paw. They added a special touch to life in Montana and the beauty that is there. They both are pretty tough and pivotal to the story. 

There are so many things that make Danger Unknown a fabulous book. It's chock full of danger, suspense, action, a little romance, and enough quiet moments to give you a breather before something else crazy happens. I loved Danger Unknown! Author Kathi Oram Peterson has written another thriller that hooks you and doesn't release the reader until the very last page.

{My Review}
Breach of Trust was gripping from the first three pages. Once you start reading this book, good luck putting it down. Sleep goes out the window as you become enthralled in the world of political conspiracy, blackmail and the ravages of war and PTSD.

This novel is about decorated war hero, Cooper Lane, who goes from happiness serving her country and marrying her husband Tom and giving birth to a baby daughter, to her life exploding in a ball of fire where she is presumed dead in Afghanistan. After living there four years under cover, saved by locals, she is rescued by Navy Seal Axe Talbot. Once she comes home she hopes for peace, but there won't be any of that for Cooper. One thing after another happens that drops Cooper and Axe into a series of threats and mysteries, where they only have days to solve the mayhem they've landed in.

I've read most of the books Kathi Oram Peterson has written and this book is one of the best. This tale is written with intense rounds of action and intrigue. The story is also brilliantly told in flashbacks from scenes of war and is woven into present day happenings. As Cooper and Axe try to figure out the messy business that has become her life, their feelings for each other come to the surface.

This novel will not only entertain you, but also pull you into the story and you'll feel like your watching a movie. The main characters are real and endearing and win you over from the start. Readers will be captivated until the last chapter as they, along with Cooper and Axe, try to unravel the great web of deceit found within the pages of Breach of Trust. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and happily give it 5 stars*****!

 My Review:
 Wanted is another phenomenal book written by Author Kathi Oram Peterson. I have never been disappointed with anything I have read from this author. She knows how to immediately draw you into the story and never lets the storyline drag. You are hooked and trying so hard to figure out who the bad guys are. Readers will get twisted and turned into so many directions that everyone looks a little bit guilty. 

She writes such great characters whether they are the good or bad guys. I loved Jo Powers and her strong spirit and determination to do the right thing. I also couldn't help but fall for convicted murderer and Jo's ex-husband Branson Faulkner. There is something about him that makes you want to believe in his innocence. There are many characters, Lance, Denny, Edward and even the Sheriff, that the author leads you to believe could be involved in several murders. I had ideas of who could have been involved, but I was still surprised at the end by who was involved and why.

I loved the western flavor found in this book, along with veterinarian Jo's love for the many animals(A wolf, deer, and skunk to name a few) that she has saved. I also loved the rich descriptions of the gorgeous Idaho wilderness. With the unending suspense, the romantic tension and the realistic telling of Idaho country life, this book is a true winner.  


As I was visiting Kathi's blog, I was so excited to find that she had posted pictures from where her book is based in Idaho. I'm an Idaho gal myself and love the beauty that can be found in that state. I wanted to share the pictures and what Kathi had to say about visiting the places where you base your novel.

"Last week I had the good fortune to find myself standing on the north bank of the Snake River beneath Table Rock Mountain. Isn't it beautiful? This is one of my favorite spots in the world, and where I set some scenes in my novel, Wanted.

Here's another view of the mountain from across the river. In Wanted, Jo, one of the main characters, rides her horse to the top of the mountain and looks down at the river and valley below as she tries to find answers to her father's untimely death.

Standing beneath the mountain last week, I longed to be on top looking down just like Jo did.

But I wasn't there for research or to recreate my novel. I was there for a family reunion. See my mother was born across the river from Table Rock Mountain. I have visited the area many times and  know it pretty well. 

As I stood there taking in the scenery, smelling river grass and hearing tree leaves flutter in the breeze overhead, I wished that my readers could have been there with me. I tried my best to paint the scene with words, but it's not the same as being there.

The Snake River is as wild and impressive as I remembered. It looks shallow here because the water is so clear, but farther out there are sinkholes and rapids that are scary even in a boat.

(Side note: My mother and her brothers and sisters had to row across that river twice a day to go to school. When I was a kid and complained about walking a couple of blocks, Mom would remind me that it could be worse.)

There are many advantages to setting scenes in your novel in places you've been and know well.

1. Your descriptions come alive.
2. You're able to feel emotions your characters would have from their surroundings.
3. And you can give attention to details that will add authenticity to your story.

I'm sure there are other reasons.

Why do you think setting a novel in places you've been can be a good thing?

Don't get me wrong. I do believe an author can write amazing stories without actually visiting where they have set their books. The reason they can do that is they have done extensive research. However, visiting the actual setting makes writing about it much easier. Take it from a writer who has done both."

Raised in southeastern Idaho, Kathi Oram Peterson developed a love for the Snake River that winds through much of the region. She spent many happy adventures with family and friends swimming, boating, and fishing on the river. Though she now resides in Salt Lake City, she returns to the Snake River Valley often for vacations. When her children finished school, Kathi finished her English degree at the University of Utah. She worked for several years, writing and editing children's books for a curriculum publisher. Upon leaving the workforce, she turned her attention to writing novels. My Review:

Cold Justice is the sequel to River Whispers and it picks up not too long after the first book ended. Regi and Sam are finally getting married, right after Sam's baptism in the LDS church. The big problem is that Sam is a no show for both his baptism and his wedding. Did he run out on his soon to be bride? The clues all point to something else and the adventure to Alaska begins. I found this fast paced mystery/suspense kept me reading, and not wanting a break. Though the reader knows some of the mystery, you don't know "who done it" and why. This is not revealed until the very end. I have to admit, I almost had it all figured out before then. That's half the fun of reading a mystery/suspense.

I liked the main characters of Regi and Samuel from reading River Whispers. It didn't take me long to remember them and their relationship. Though this story could stand alone, I recommend that you read River Whispers first. Having the history behind Regi's and Sam's relationship, will help you understand the motivations behind why both of them take the chances that they do to save each other. 

The setting of the story was interesting, freezing Alaska during the Winter, featuring the fictional Raven Clan, a powerful Alaskan tribe and their customs. You could tell that Kathi did her research on Native people. I also enjoyed parts of the Native Alaskan myths that started each chapter.  

Once again Kathi has written a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat,have you talking/screaming to the characters to not do something that you know will get them in trouble, appreciating a nice romance, and making you think about the power of God in your life. Cold Justice brings the wild Alaskan land and sea alive, quite vividly through Kathi's writing. The stories of supporting characters Wakanda, Trace and Tucker will also touch your heart. Cold Justice will be a cool read during these warm summer months.

Review of "River Whispers" by Kathi Oram Peterson and a Fantastic Giveaway!

River Whispers is a novel very different from anything that Kathi Oram Peterson has ever written. She has written two young adult time travel books, The Forgotten Warrior and The Stone Traveler, and a best selling Christmas book, An Angel On Main Street. Now with River Whispers, she has written her first romantic suspense. Let's just say I was very impressed with this novel. Kathi did such a great job of hiding the true killer until the very end. She presented so many different suspects that by the end I was suspecting everyone in this small Idaho town.

River Whispers was written with two very strong lead characters. Regi and Samuel were romantically involved when they were teenagers. There were things that separated them and changed their lives. Now, many years later, Samuel is wanting to rekindle his relationship with Regi. Along the way there are many things still keeping them apart, including a murder. Regi and Samuel are both heavily involved as murder suspects. I loved both of these characters and was cheering them along hoping they would finally come together again. Once again, I found a man, Samuel, that I wish was around in real life. A girl can dream can't she?

I really loved the way that Kathi wrote this suspense novel. Each detail was laid out, chapter by chapter until finally you are able to piece the puzzle together. This is a fun novel to read. This has a little of everything, romance, suspense, humor, and of course the murder mystery. All I can say is "Nice job Kathi!" I hope that Kathi will write more romantic suspense. This book gets 4 1/2 stars from me!
