My Review

Having read many books by these three authors, I knew that I was in for some heart-pounding, and jaw dropping suspense stories. 

Each of the novellas has a story that draws you in quickly and hooks you until the last page. It's amazing how each of these stories felt like you were reading a full-length novel. Also, all three are so well written and very different from each other. The stories vary from kidnappings, and money laundering, to old-fashioned gun and knife fights. It was hard to pick a favorite because all of them had characters I liked and plots that were full of action. This book is fantastic for those that want to read but don't always have the time. I read the novellas over three nights, one per evening. 

Mystery-Suspense lovers will want to read Sinister Secrets. Each unique story will keep you entertained and enthralled page after page.

Traci Hunter Abramson

Traci Hunter Abramson was born in Arizona, where she lived until moving to Venezuela for a study-abroad program. After graduating from Brigham Young University, she worked for the Central Intelligence Agency for several years, eventually resigning in order to raise her family. She credits the CIA with giving her a wealth of ideas for suspense novels as well as the skills needed to survive her children's teenage years. She has gone on to write a number of bestselling suspense novels that have consistently been nominated as Whitney Award finalists. She considers shoes an optional accessory which became evident when she won her first three Whitney Awards in 2013 (Code Word), 2014 (Deep Cover), and 2016 (Failsafe.) Safe House won Whitney Awards for both the mystery/suspense category as well as 2017 Adult Novel of the Year. She added two additional awards in 2019 (Mistaken Reality - best mystery/suspense and Sanctuary - Adult Novel of the Year.) Clair M. Poulson

Clair M. Poulson was born and raised in Duchesne, Utah. His father was a rancher and farmer, his mother a librarian. Clair has always been an avid reader, having found his love for books as a very young boy.

He has served for forty years in the criminal justice system. Twenty years were spent in law enforcement, ending his police career with eight years as the Duchesne County Sheriff. For the past twenty years Clair has worked as a justice court judge for Duchesne County. Clair is also a veteran of the US Army where he was a military policeman. He has served on various boards and councils during his professional career, including the Justice Court Board of Judges, Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, Utah Judicial Council, Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training Council, an FBI advisory board and others.

In addition to his criminal justice work, Clair has farmed and ranched all of his life. He has raised many kinds of animals, but his greatest interest is horses.

Clair has served in many capacities in the LDS church, including fulltime missionary (California Mission) bishop, counselor to bishop, young men president, high councilor, stake mission president, scoutmaster, High Priest group leader, etc. He currently serves as a Sunday School teacher.

Clair is married to Ruth, and together, they have five children, all of whom are married: Alan (Vicena) Poulson, Kelly Ann (Wade) Hatch, Amanda (Ben) Semadeni, Wade (Brooke) Poulson, and Mary (Tyler) Hicken. Between them they have twenty-three children. Clair and Ruth met while both were students at Snow College and were married in the Manti temple.

Clair has always loved telling his children, and later his grandchildren, make-up stories. His vast experience in life and his love of literature has always contributed to both his telling stories to children and his writing of adventure and suspense novels.

Paige Edwards

Paige Edwards is an award-winning author of contemporary regencies with a side-order of suspense. She holds a degree in interior design and has worked professionally in that field. Due to her strong British roots, Paige's books are often set in the UK, and she hops the pond whenever she gets the chance. She is styled the Lady Paige Edwards when in Scotland, but her favorite title is Grandma. When she needs a break from writing, she serves as president of the Interfaith Community Council, is fond of digging in the dirt (what some might call gardening), biking battlefields, and kayaking on the lake.

My Review

The Price of Jade is full of a lot of angst and suspense. More than half the time you're not quite sure who to trust. The story is told from many points of view from the main Miller family: Matt, Cathy, and Melissa, to Scott & Raul tour leaders, and Matt's boos Nick. We also see things happening from the tourists on the Book of Mormon Tour to the villains in the story, and there are many of those.

The story goes into full action when right at the beginning Melissa, Matt and Cathy's daughter, is kidnapped. Matt is still back in the USA and Cathy is there trying to find someone to help her. What a terrible feeling you get, especially if you are a parent, when you think of this happening to one of your children. There were so many different people involved in the kidnapping. Your job as a reader is to figure out who is truly behind all of it. I figured that part out about 3/4 of the way through. 

The thing I really loved in this book was the journey spiritually, mentally, and emotionally that so many of the characters went through. There were lessons learned about forgiveness, having faith, trusting in others, loving your family more, and selflessness. There are many surprising things in this book. I think the most shocking thing was finding out that this was Liz Hastings first published novel. Price of Jade is a well-written, compelling novel with gripping scenes that will leave you breathless, but has a rewarding ending. 

This book is going on my Summer Reading list for you. 

If you want to read a fast paced mystery that you can't put down, this book should definitely be on your to-read list.

My Review
It was wonderful to be able to read another book from one of my favorite series: The Saint Squad. These books are about a group of LDS Navy Seals and the adventures they encounter on the job and the women in their lives. 

Tripwire is a little different from some of the other Saint Squad books. This novel doesn't fully center on just a Saint Squad member, this time Craig, but on his soon to be wife actress Sienna, and her friends Jane and Reed. Many of the squad do appear in this book, but a lot of focus is on Jane and Reed getting together. All of the action centers around some terrorists that ended up in a photo of Jane and Sienna at the airport. From there, the two women are targeted and it's up to the Saint Squad to protect them and save their lives many times. There's always good character interaction with witty dialogue in a Traci Hunter Abramson book. The romance is good and realistic. The action is anything from car chases, to shootouts, and chemical bombs. This book kept me up late at night because it has the "Just One More Chapter" syndrome woven into it's pages. Honestly, it was SO hard to put it down because I just had to see what would happen next.

This book is for people that like a combination of romance, action, and suspense. I know it's best to read the other nine books in the series first, but you could easily pick this up not having read the others. I can promise you though, if you do, you'll be racing off to read the other books in the Saint Squad series. All of the covers are down below.

What you don't realize, is that you are getting a whole lot more in the form of a murder mystery, vicious smugglers, and deception around every corner.  Elaine is a well-bred lady who must leave London in shame because of her father's indiscretions. The family returns to their country home, Havencross, in Cornwall. Elaine isn't happy about returning because of many ghosts in her past such as her brother's disappearance in which she blames herself, the man, Garth Kemp, whom she loved and whose marriage proposal she turned down. Once there she realizes that her life will never be the same until the great Lord Chiverton, her beau she left behind in London comes calling for her hand in marriage. The mystery begins here as things start happening that bring Garth and Elaine back together in ways she'd never would have imagined. Elaine is a very likable character as is Garth. I also truly loved Elaine's Aunt Rose.  This story is full of rich settings that take you to the shores of Cornwall with it's rocky cliffs, where you can almost smell the sea water and hear the seagulls as they fly by. I don't think I've ever wanted to visit somewhere so much after reading about it in a book until now. The authors descriptions help bring to life this novel full of the mysteries of Arthurian legends, deaths, disappearances, dangerous smugglers, and never knowing who is behind everything that is happening. I wasn't surprised at all at who the bad guy turned out to be but the last 1/4 of the book was SO intense {Edge of your seat!} I couldn't read fast enough to see how the hero and heroine managed to come out in one piece. The small parts of romance are sweet in the book but the mysteries in this novel are what made it amazing to me. This book would be enjoyed by lovers of romance and mystery novels alike.  {Meet Author: Julie Daines} Julie Daines was born in Concord, Massachusetts, and was raised in Utah. {My Review}
The Ghost of You and Me is a story full of emotion that explores the themes of grief and forgiveness. The paranormal aspect of the book was done in such a way that made you utterly love Bailey's boyfriend, Spencer, who had died the previous year. Spencer, the ghost, has come back to help his two best friends heal and find love again. The back story of the three friends, Bailey, Spencer and Wes is so sweet, but heart breaking at the same time. As the story progresses and you find out more about them and how Spencer died in an accident, you realize how much they all were hurting and should have communicated with each other way before Spencer died. 

I love Kelly Oram's stories and how she always hits a home run when it comes to the emotional journey of her characters. Funny enough, one of my favorite characters wasn't one of the three already mentioned, but Bailey's new friend Charlotte who brought such loyalty and strength to their friendship. This is a high school story full of some of the more familiar cliches of what it means to be popular and peer pressure and it also rises above those same themes by exploring the aspects of being selfless and dealing with grief. 

This story is clean and for anyone 16+ who enjoy reading about love, romance, forgiveness and letting go. I know I enjoyed this book and was satisfied with how it ended.

Our hug goes on long enough that it turns into something more. I’m not sure how to break it up or if I even should. Wes’s embrace started out soft, but now he’s hanging on as if he plans to never let me go. His muscled arms have me trapped against him in a grip I couldn’t escape if I tried, and his cheek is resting on the top of my head. He’s not hugging me; he’s holding me.

As I stand there frozen in shock, one of Wes’s hands slides up my back and he tangles his fingers in my hair. His cheek slides across my head until I feel his face buried in my hair, and he takes a deep breath, inhaling my scent. His grip on me tightens even more, as if he can’t hold me close enough.

There’s something about the moment that feels desperate. It’s as if Wes can’t help himself. It feels as 

though he’s seized on the tiny bit of comfort I’ve offered him and is trying to soak it all in before it vanishes and he’s left without again. Has he had no one helping him through this for the entire last year? I can’t even imagine what a nightmare it’s been for him to have to deal with Spencer’s death and his mom’s cancer all by himself.
