Book Summary
Charlie Jonquil is
mild-mannered and kind—except when it comes to his one true adversary,
Artemis Lancaster. Though Charlie has a brilliant mind for mathematics,
Artemis poses a problem he can’t seem to comprehend: how can one be so
lovely and so infuriating? A party in London brings him into the company
of the maddening young lady, and it is clear that Charlie’s disdain is
mutual. But when an unfortunate incident between the pair involving
Charlie’s jacket and a glass of raspberry shrub leads to scandal, the
sworn enemies are left with only two options: be ruined or be married.
So
it is that Artemis finds herself in a most outrageous predicament: she
must wed a gentleman she’s hated for years—and she pledges to avoid him
at all costs. But it is only when they enter into this mockery of a
marriage that Charlie and Artemis learn things are not as simple as they
once appeared. As their tentative ceasefire leads to friendship, it
seems their marriage born of desperation might lead them to a love that
was destined to be.
My Review
When a series ends that I've loved, I always have a hard time. The characters feel like family and you don't want to say goodbye. Granted, with books you can always go back and read the whole series again. Any series written by Sarah M. Eden are ones I do go back and reread. Charming Artemis is the crowning glory of the Lancaster family series and Jonquil Brother series. The youngest members of both families are the main characters, Charlie Jonquil and Artemis Lancaster. Sadly, they truly hate each other and fighting is mainly what they do. A mishap brings Charlie and Artemis together which doesn't make either one of them happy. It's quite the journey as two former enemies slowly go from anger and resentment, to finally finding love.
One thing I truly loved most about this novel, was that all of the beloved characters that readers have grown to love from the previous books are here in Charming Artemis. It felt like going to a family reunion. This is an emotional read. You will spend some time wiping those tears away and then a chapter later you'll be LOL about something one of the Jonquil brothers have done or said. The letters read by Charlie and Artemis at the end of the book were my undoing. Tissue Warning: Just be prepared. My only warning with this novel is to read the previous books before this one or you will be lost and not enjoy it as much. It will be like starting to watch a movie in the last 15 minutes.
Sarah Eden is a gifted writer and I hope that there are many more books that she'll write. Charming Artemis though, will be seen by many of her fans as an ultimate achievement in her repertoire of magnificent books. Readers now can look forward to more books with the Gents and the Huntresses. Charming Artemis is a clean romance guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, and stay up late.
