Bean Finds A Pet (Bean the Wizard) by Alison Palmer-Children's Book Review

 Book Summary

Bean is a brownie. He’s not a very good one. He’s a bit different, and that’s okay. Brownies love rules, order, and cleanliness. Brownies certainly don’t have pets. Pets are messy, and they aren’t very good at following rules. If Bean is ever going to become a wizard, he will need to bend the rules and make a few messes to find the perfect pet to help him do big magic. If you love books like The Borrowers, The Littles, and How to Train Your Dragon, you’ll love the adventures of Bean the Wizard. Both the print version and the digital version of this emerging reader chapter book, perfect for 7 to 9-year-olds, come with coloring pages that highlight Bean’s troubles with each animal he tries to tame. Join Bean as he learns a little bit about magic and a lot about life in Bean Finds a Pet.

My Review

Bean Finds a Pet is about a brownie who wants to be a wizard. He knows every good wizard has a pet. Bean goes about trying to catch an animal. There are many funny moments as Bean finds himself in funny situations with a cat, a mouse, a small dragon, and a toad. I especially loved that the toads in this story breathed fire.

This book is wonderful for the age group I teach 7 and 8-year-olds in second grade. It's a perfect book for emerging readers. I know that this book will pull kids in and keep them interested in reading this book and others. The other fun thing are the color pages at the end of the book showing Bean interacting with the animals.

This book will make a great gift for kids and a super book for any classroom.
