Book Summary
Love’s gentle promise becomes nothing more than a withered dream.
With dreams of love and a hope for belonging, shy Belle Parish leaves her position as a maid in Charleston to travel to New Mexico with her best friend to become mail-order brides. Colt Lawson’s letters hold great promise and while his devilishly handsome face matches his picture, something does not add up. Discovering his lie only moments before they wed, Belle flees the church and straight into the Castañeda Hotel Harvey House. Giving up the prospect on ever marrying, she dons her nun-like uniform and focuses on her role as a Harvey Girl waitress until a strong Texas Ranger rides into her life.
Colt Lawson didn’t want to send that letter to Belle Parish in the first place, but her first response had all but captured his heart. When he is left standing at the altar alone, he is left with two choices—either release his dream of a love marriage, or attempt to win her heart. Wooing her would be a lot easier if that Texas Ranger wasn’t back in town. Who wants a dusty rancher with a past when she could have a shining knight in a Stetson?

My Review
The Pursuit of Miss Parish was a delightful book. The main characters were so easy to love. This is the second book in the Apron and Veils series. The women in the story are "Harvey Girls". The Harvey Girls Defined Hospitality in the Wild West of the 1880s. More specifically, they were young, single, intelligent women who were also of “good character" and presumably had the sort of sense of adventure that propelled them to unknown territory in the 1880s to work as waitresses.
Belle comes out West to leave the abuse she was getting from her aunt. She, along with her friend, answered an ad to become mail-order brides in the town of Las Vegas New Mexico. Once they get there, things aren't as they seem and Belle turns down her cowboy and goes to work as a Harvey Girl.
The romance starts slow but blooms with time. There are many other things going on in this town, women fighting over the available men, men fighting over the available women, a gang of outlaws causing mayhem and sorrow, and poor jilted Colt seems to be at the heart of everything that is going on.
I liked the plot, I loved the friendships that many of the women had, and the bad guys truly were rotten. Every time Belle and Colt were around each other you could see the attraction between them. This book has a happy ending but a lot of other things get in the way before readers can sigh with relief. This Historical, Christian Fiction book has some sweet moments between Colt and Belle where they learn to rely on each other, have faith in God, and realize that sticking together is more important than staying apart. This clean romance will be loved by those who like historical fiction, romance, and action.
