Over the Edge (A Trespassers Suspense Novel) By Stephanie Black-Mystery Suspense Review

 Book Synopsis

SIX MONTHS AGO, ACCUSATIONS of murder threw Rayna Kirkpatrick’s life into turmoil, and her fight to prove her innocence nearly got her killed. Now, she seeks healing and refuge, but as a Trespasser—a person with lethal paranormal abilities—she can’t escape the attention of the covert government organization monitoring her. They want her on their team, but Rayna wants to maintain her quiet life in Willet Beach, living next door to her sister and running a small pottery studio.

SPECIAL AGENT DAMON HALE has been assigned to keep an eye on Rayna. The abilities that would make her a valuable member of the Trespasser team would also make her a powerful weapon in the hands of an enemy; it’s Damon’s job to keep her safe and ensure that information about her Trespasser status remains classified. He’s posing as her boyfriend to provide an excuse for the time they spend together, but, privately, each of them is struggling with that cover story; their feelings for each other are becoming all too real.

RAYNA’S ATTEMPT AT A peaceful life shatters when she rescues a woman from a fire, an act that drags her into a whirlpool of rumors and deadly secrets. As Damon works to protect her, he’s torn by the knowledge that managing this crisis might require decisions that will devastate Rayna and that the line between ally and enemy may be more blurred than either of them imagined.

My Review

The first book in this series was amazing. "Over the Edge," the second book, is just as good. It has surprising plot twists, and I couldn't put it down. Knowing the characters and their powers helped the plot move forward quickly. Reading the first book is helpful for context.

"Over the Edge" is the second book in the Trespassers series. It starts six months after the first book ends. The story continues with Rayna and Damon with some unexpected curveballs. Trespassers can sense others' feelings and thoughts, and also stop enemies' hearts. Rayna and Damon have these abilities. They team up to solve crimes in Rayna's hometown, where she is accused of terrible crimes again. As crimes ramp up, so does the spark between Rayna and Damon. Neither wants to admit their feelings for the other.

"Over the Edge" combines mystery, suspense, murder, arson, and shifting loyalties. Readers will be on the edge of their seats until the end. Author Stephanie Black writes a mystery that leaves you wanting more. Hopefully, the third book is being written now.

****Meet Author Stephanie Black****

Whether as a child at the library snatching Nancy Drew mysteries off the shelves or an as an adult at her keyboard tossing her characters into another round of peril, Stephanie Black has long enjoyed the nail-biting suspense of mystery novels. She is the author of fifteen novels, including the Natalie Marsh Mysteries, and a five-time Whitney Award winner for Best Mystery/Suspense, most recently for The Trespassers.

Stephanie lives in the Bay Area in California. She loves spending time with her husband, their five kids and three kids-in-law, and their grandson. She loves the ocean, taking photos of birds, and crocheting small creatures. She plays the violin in a community orchestra, is fond of naps, and considers all baked goods (cookies, pie, cheesecake, brownies, etc.) to be legitimate breakfast foods.
