My Review
This is my first introduction to Mary Connealy's writing. "Toward the Dawn," is the second book in the 'A Western Light' series, set in 1870. While I typically prefer to read books in order, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily I could understand the previous events without a detailed recap. The story begins slowly but gains momentum like an old-fashioned train. Once the action starts, it doesn't let up.
The story is told from multiple perspectives, which gives readers deeper and more interesting insights and increases the intrigue, which I enjoyed. The plot is filled with various events such as hidden canyon hideaways, a marriage of convenience, damsels in distress, many bad guys, kidnappings, and a depiction of the lack of women's rights during that time. The book mainly features devout characters striving to do what's right, with a focus on the journey of newlyweds Sebastian and Kat. They experience significant challenges and hardships, which lead to personal growth, and learning important lessons about themselves and marriage. This was very well written.
Fans of Western Romances with Christian values and exciting action scenes will eagerly dive into "Toward the Dawn."
