Book Summary
The capital has fallen.
The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.
Now
the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced
tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.
Deep
in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must
submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who
worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for
the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.
Alina
will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and
Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins
to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever
alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields.
The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and
destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s
fighting for.

My Review
I just finished listening to this last book, Ruin and Rising, on Audible. I've had these on my "To-Read" list for many years and I became motivated to read them before I watched the new Netflix series based on these books. You know as well as I do, that most books are always better than the movie or TV series made from them.
So, overall I feel this last book was the best out of the trilogy. That doesn't mean that I was happy with everything that happened. I want to make it known right now that this review will not include any spoilers. I detest when reviews include spoilers. I will say that I wasn't happy with who Alina ended up with. Out of the potential three men who were her "love interests" the best one I felt for her didn't get that honor but he did live.
Ruin and Rising was full of great character development and the plot moved along well. Readers found out great information about one of my favorite characters, Baghra. We learned her whole back story which included a wealth of information about Morozova and his amplifiers. This part of the plot was brilliant and I loved how it brought everything together for me. Now the last 1/3 of the book is so exciting and very shocking. Make sure that you're awake and paying attention. I was finishing this up late at night and had to listen again to certain scenes because I wasn't sure I had heard what I thought I'd heard.
I think I'm ready to watch the series now, except I heard someone say that the series included things from Six of Crows that is the first book in a duology based in the Grishaverse. I will definitely be reading the duology next. I loved seeing the growth this author made as Shadow and Bone was Leigh Bardugo's first published book. There are many more books written by her that are on my list to read in the future.
