Can they survive the refiner's fire?
It is 85 B.C. in the Ancient Americas,
and against all odds, Amulek and Tabitha’s arranged marriage has turned into
one based on love. Their little family is thriving and life seems to be better
than they could have ever hoped for.
Despite her blessed and luxurious
lifestyle, Tabitha feels as if something is missing. A part of her yearns for
something she cannot see, something to fill the hole inside of her heart.
However, no matter where she turns, she cannot find the cure, until she becomes
intrigued by a man preaching of God in the town square.
Amulek’s status as a respected and
wealthy man in the city of Ammonihah seems to grow by the day. His farm is
flourishing and his family is healthy and happy. Everything he ever wanted is
in his hands. But when the Lord he has ignored for years, tells Amulek he is
not only to house a chosen prophet of God, but travel with him to preach
repentance to the people, Amulek’s idyllic life is thrown into turmoil.
No matter his previous status among his
peers, Amulek’s change of heart brings his entire family into danger. Before
they are ready, their new found faith is thrown directly into the refiner’s
fire. It seems as if they will lose everything if they stand firm in their
beliefs and follow the plan God has for them. Is what they will gain worth the
cost?
“The Faith of a Wife” is a Christian
Historical Fiction Romance. Each book is a stand alone story and can be read in
any order.
L.A. Pattillo is the mother of 5 busy children and wife to 1 fantastic
husband by day and avid reader and writer by night. She loves her father in
heaven and is active in her church. She graduated from BYU with a degree in
Creative Writing and now resides with her family in the Pacific Northwest.
Snippet #1-
“Amulek,” Tabitha reached out and
raised his face with her hand on his rough cheek. “What is it that troubles
you?”
Amulek
sighed. “Alma and I spoke in the fields today. He told me of a command from the
Lord.” His dark eyes bore into hers. “Later, I received my own witness to the
command.” He pinched his lips then continued, “The Lord has commanded that I
accompany Alma during his preaching.”
Tabitha
gasped. What? How can the Lord ask him to leave his family? How long will he
be gone? She did her best to control her breathing and not give away her
panic. She could feel her heart rate picking up speed and her breathing tried
to follow. Forcing herself to stay calm she asked, “Would you be required to be
away from us?”
Amulek
kissed her palm. “I do not know. I do not know where the Lord will call us and
I do not know what will happen to us. Judging from how Alma was received when
he first tried to speak to Ammonihah, I cannot even promise that I will return
to you. There are many in this city who will not be happy with the words we
teach.”
Tabitha
felt a sharp pain in her chest and she put her hand on it. Tears pricked her
eyes. Oh Lord, what are you asking of us?
“Tabitha.” He put a finger under her
chin and brought it up. The tears that had been pooling spilled down her cheeks
in abandon. “Dear One, I do not wish to leave you, but I have denied the call
of the Lord too long. If I do not go, I risk losing you for eternity rather
than this mortal existence.”
Her
bottom lip trembled but Tabitha did her best to hold it still. “I understand,”
she murmured. “You are the best of husbands, Amulek. I could not have asked for
more than the life you have given me, except to have you by my side forever.”
She took a shaky breath. “Do what you must. I cannot ask you to deny what the
Lord has spoken.”
