Livvy and the Enchanted Woodland
By Connie Lacy
Genre: Historical Fantasy Romance
Age category: Adult
Release Date: 30 September 2022

Book Summary
Romance, intrigue and a touch of enchantment…

“Magic happens all the time. You just have to look for it.” That’s what Livvy Sloan’s Grandma used to say. But as the Great Depression settles over rural Georgia in 1930, magic is hard to come by. Losing the family farm looms larger day by day.

So Livvy escapes to her secret woodland most afternoons to create forest sculptures. That’s where she meets a mysterious Englishman on horseback who admires her art and makes her heart race. But there’s something amiss about Gordon Collins.

Back home she’s pursued by Coy Whitaker. With good looks and money to spare, he’s eager to help Livvy and her family in their time of need. She gives him a chance, pushing doubts aside.

As her family is hammered by one disaster after another, Livvy finds herself hoping against hope and trying to find some of that magic Grandma talked about.

Historical fantasy. Magical realism. Clean romance.

My Review

Livvy and the Enchanted Woodland is a mix of harsh reality during the depression and light fantasy. This author knows how to write characters that jump out at you and are very memorable.

Livvy and her family are living through desperate times with a failing farm, little food, and loans due at the bank. Livvy's escape from these trials is the art that she does in the woods. She gained this love and talent from her Grandmother who also taught her a little about magic. As Livvy creates, finishes a project, and cuts a snippet of her hair to tie into her art...magic does happen. This magic comes in the form of a British man named Gordon Collins. She only sees and interacts with him in one place. I love the mystery behind this man and her art. The reader is left to wonder if he is really there or if is it her imagination. There is also a REALLY bad guy in the story who is the source of all of her family's problems. Coy Whitaker is rich and always gets his way. He pursues Livvy and is relentless. But, there is more afoot that readers don't find out about until nearly the end of the book.

I really liked this book. I found out that this author has written other books with time traveling in them. I'm excited to read more of them. Livvy and the Enchanted Woodland is a great story full of mystery, angst, and romance that makes you feel all of the feels. I loved Livvy for the strong woman that she was and also for the love she had for her family. This historical, romantic fantasy is one I recommend to all readers.
