Book Summary
Woodrow Wilson Oaks knows he is different from everyone else at Pine Creek Middle School. Being sprouted from a seed is his first clue. But feeling like he can change the world, and possessing strange powers, bother him more than his lack of a belly button. If only he knew why he was here on this planet.

As Sprout searches for answers, his adoptive brother and sister search for ways he can use his superpowers. Being a superhero doesn’t appeal to Sprout, but when an ancient bristlecone pine reveals himself as Spout’s guardian and tells Sprout he’s been placed on earth with a specific mission, he decides to develop his powers. But before he has a chance to receive any instructions, his guardian is gone.

Will Sprout be able to figure out his mission, and more importantly fulfill it, before he and the planet suffer more loss?

My Review
This second book in the series picks up right after the first one ended. Readers are anxious to know who Sprout really is and where he comes from; I know this reader did! I love how Sprout continues to learn how to be a part of this world. One minute he's trying to fit in as a human boy and the next he's trying to figure out how to use his new-found powers.

One of my favorite parts of the book was when Sprout finally found his Guardian. There was an instant connection and you could really feel his bond to his people and where he came from. It was a sweet moment that sadly turns tragic the next day. This actually shocked me when something happened to take his Guardian away.

This book is filled with more action and scary moments for Sprout and his adoptive brother and sister. They seem to smell trouble and always find it along the way. There are many talking points for families that want to read this together about telling the truth, responsibility, and following your heart.

I know that there's one more book in this series. I look forward to reading about Sprout's journey as he continues to grow and develop into the being that his creators hoped he'd become. This middle-grade fantasy is great for readers between the ages of 8-15 and any older person that likes a good story that shows the struggle between good and evil and rising up to ones highest potential.

***Meet Author Carolyn Twede Frank***

Carolyn lives out west in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains with her husband and her plants, her five children having fled the nest. When she’s not writing, she loves to read, garden, sew, renovate houses, and play with her grandkids.

In 1994, she incorporated her basement sewing business, eventually moving it into a warehouse, hiring more people, and developing her unique line of puppets and educational curriculum into a full-fledged, international business. She sold the main arm of her business in 2009, retaining a small portion to bring in income while she pursued her writing career. In 2018 she sold the remainder of her business and now writes full-time. She has been writing seriously since 2006.
