Book Summary
Evie Jennings doesn’t believe in happily ever after—it’s been a year since moving home to Los Angeles to gather the pieces of her broken heart after her divorce, but she is only going through the motions. That is, until a chance encounter on her college campus brings about an unexpected turn of events: Evie finds herself face-to-face with the heartthrob whose poster decorated the wall of her teenage bedroom. And he’s desperate for her help.Hollywood sensation Ridge Dashly is facing a career crisis—a bad review threatens his A-list status. Desperate to win back the favor of the media and his fans, Ridge reluctantly agrees to enroll in college, never dreaming he’ll meet someone who can see past his fame to his true self.
As their paths continue to cross, Evie’s seeming disinterest intrigues Ridge, and the pair form a tentative friendship that slowly grows into something more. But when confronted with the unrelenting paparazzi and the nagging shadows of their pasts, will they follow everyone else’s script or fight for their own happy ending?
My Review
Love Unscripted is the first book that I've read from Author Tiffany Odekirk. Her first book, Love on Pointe, happens to be about the twin sister of Evie, the main character in Love Unscripted. After reading this second book I know I'll be going back to read the first book about Emmy. This novel is a contemporary romance written mainly for LDS readers. It has a strong messages about belief in God, repenting and forgiveness, accepting Christ's atonement into our lives, and healing from sorrows. There is a lot of religious talk, but I found it very uplifting.
This book covers many emotions from one end of the spectrum to the next. There is humor right from the beginning when Evie meets Hollywood star Ridge Dashly, in the women's bathroom one day at college. He's being chased by crazy fans. Their first conversation is wonderful! Even though Evie is playing coy with the star she's had a crush on for many years, she handles things very well. This of course spurs Ridge's interest in her. Soon the reader finds out that Evie is hurting greatly from past events in her life. Ridge, whose real name is Bridger, has his own problems that are plaguing him. Even though they both are interested, there are many things standing in the way of them dating and pursuing a relationship.
I really liked how the author wrote Evie and Bridger interacting. Things developed in a realistic time frame. The added bonus in the story is being able to see a side of a Hollywood star not often seen. I loved Bridger and how he cared for his mother and those less fortunate. I also liked how he never gave up on Evie. I have to say, I smiled so much near the end of the book when someone buys a mood ring. I'm not going to say who, but it made my heart happy. One of the main messages in this book is one of following your heart, loyalty, forgiveness, and love. I recommend this book to upper teens and adults who enjoy reading LDS Contemporary Romance stories. This was a great read and I know you'll like the ending.
