{Book Description}
As
her first London Season looms before her, the thought of the impending
social whirl fills Daphne Lancaster's timid heart with dread. She hasn't
her sisters beauty nor their talent for conversing easily. Even her
family's enviable connections may not be enough to prevent disaster.
But Daphne's misery turns to surprised delight when the first event of her Season brings an unexpected visitor to her door—James Tilburn, whose tender kindness stole her heart in her youth. When the handsome young gentleman expresses his desire to court her, Daphne is elated. Their feelings for each other quickly grow, and it appears that, much to Daphne s disbelief, her happily ever after is within reach.
Yet nothing is as it seems. The couple finds themselves caught in a tangled web of greed and deceit, leaving James and Daphne to determine whether they are willing to risk everything for true love.
{My Review}
Oh, how I love a story written by author Sarah M. Eden. I always know that it will be worth my time and so much more. The characters are compelling, the romance is sweet and the storyline is steady and never falters. I actually read much of this book while on a bus heading to a field trip with my 2nd graders. I was so swept away in the budding romance of Daphne and James I was able to block out the noise of a bus full of chatty, excited 8 years olds on the way to the Museum of Natural History.
This author never fails in developing her characters so well that you grow to know and love them within a few chapters. Daphne is now one of my favorite female characters in literature. I love everything about her. She reminded me very much of Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice in that she was very intelligent and not into the frills like many woman from that time period. Daphne wasn't as sure of herself as Elizabeth is, but does develop more confidence with the help of James as the book goes on. Their fun and witty banter was some of my favorite parts in the book. As they fell in love it felt so natural, realistic, and warmed my heart. I also truly loved having so many beloved characters back in this novel from other Lancaster Family novels. It truly felt like coming home to spend time with family.
This book is one of the best from Sarah, but I tend to say that about almost all of her books. There is something special about the way she writes and if you've never experienced reading one of her novels then you've been missing out. I would start with the first book in this series, Seeking Persephone, and soon you'll be hooked like I am.
Romancing Daphne has so much emotion and many heartfelt scenes. I loved both main characters and loved the way their relationship developed. It's clear that this book can get no less than 5 stars from me.
