My Review
Wendy's Ever After is a sequel to Peter Pan, not a simple retelling. Wendy is now a young and lovely woman in society, surrounded by eager suitors. She has no interest in any of them. Instead, she yearns for the thrills of Neverland. At a masked ball one evening, she meets a charming stranger. He captures her heart, yet hides secrets from her. Wendy has no idea this man will lead her back to Peter Pan. Together, they head off for new adventures in Neverland.
This young adult book had me hooked from the start. The plot zipped along without a hitch. It honors the classic story. Still, a shadow now cloaks the once-enchanted island. Wendy spots harsh truths now, through grown-up eyes, not a child's wonder. I was excited as Wendy and Liam became friends, which soon kindled into a romance. Even Peter Pan finds sparks of wisdom, and Captain Hook shows glimmers of this, too.
The ending wrapped up just right. Wendy leaves Neverland this time without deep sorrow. This charming follow-up flies by fast. Young readers and adults alike will love it. Wendy's Ever After lures you back to that timeless spot, travelling by the second star to the right, and flying straight on till morning.
****Meet Author Julie Wright****
Julie Wright (1972-still breathing) was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She's lived in LA, Boston, and the literal middle of nowhere (don't ask). She wrote her first book when she was fifteen. Since then, she's written twenty-three novels and coauthored three. Julie is a two-time winner of the Whitney award for best romance with her books "Cross My Heart" and "Lies Jane Austen Told Me." The America Library Association listed “Glass Slippers, Ever After, and Me” in their 2020 top ten best romances and "A Captain for Caroline Gray" in their 2021 top ten best romances. Her book "Death Thieves" was a Whitney finalist.
She has one husband, five kids, two grandbabies, one dog, and a varying amount of houseplants (depending on attrition).
She loves writing, reading, traveling, hiking, playing with her kids, and watching her husband make dinner.
She used to speak fluent Swedish, but now speaks only well enough to cuss out her children in public.
She hates mayonnaise.
