Book Summary
Melody Foster has been granted every luxury available save one: the ability to love whom she chooses. When her father reveals that she is to marry a wild Scot she’s never met, Melody defies him and declares she will never marry without affection. Her choice to marry Richard, a footman in her father’s household, prompts her family to disown her, and she goes to London to risk everything for love. But she is blindsided. Without a penny to her name, her love is worthless to Richard, and he decides to change tactics. Perhaps she could still serve a purpose—after all, her family can’t sit idly by while she is held for ransom . . .
Desperate to escape the man she thought she loved, Melody finds allies to aid her: first, her old governess and then Cameron Findlay, a handsome stranger who is startled by the distraught young woman who catapulted into his life. Cam finds himself sympathetic to the young woman’s plight, so he and his sister agree to take her on as a servant in their household. Cam and Melody are powerfully drawn to one another, but can Melody ever trust her heart when it was so terribly wrong before?
My Review
Scotland's Melody has a very rambunctious female main character. Melody is nineteen, stubborn, naive, and running away with a man who she thinks she's in love with. Her father disowns her after Melody proclaims she's not marrying the stranger from Scotland that her father chose for her. Melody soon learns that "her love" was fake and he's after her and her family's money.
This book has Melody running away a lot from men, her family, and her feelings. I truly loved Scottish brother and sister, Cam and Elsie. {I'm excited to know that Elsie's story will be the next one written. She had quite the personality and spirit.} They took Melody in when she needed help and taught her some things about life too. Soon Cam is falling for Melody but there are trust issues. I felt for Melody as she had already had her heart broken once and was scared to love again.
The big "mystery" is soon revealed that causes much angst but is resolved well. Melody changes so much from the beginning of the story as an impetuous girl to a young woman. It's a fun journey to see her take and also it's wonderful once the setting settles in Scotland. One of my favorite scenes takes place with Cam reading a poem to Melody. I found a video of a Scotsman reading the poem and his voice makes your toes curl. I included this video with my review on my blog if you are interested.
Overall this was a sweet story, easy to read, and I loved how Melody and Cam finally came together.
****Meet Author Katie Stewart Stone****
Katie Stewart Stone is an Austen enthusiast, a blogger, a journal writer, and a wife and mother. She writes what she wants to read and rarely reads anything without a good romance. Katie graduated from Brigham Young University in 2012 with a bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation and spent six years working in the non-profit world while writing on the side. When her beautiful boy was born, she quit her day job and committed to finishing her first Regency novel. Now she is a stay-at-home mother with two remarkable children-- both named after Austen characters-- and is continuously working to become a better writer.
