After an extended stay in China, Lord Benedict has returned transformed to his family's estate, where an encounter with Vivian, whose scientific knowledge he once undermined, leaves him determined to make amends. He arranges to help forward her research—anonymously, of course. Through letters, Vivian establishes a warm friendship with her secret benefactor, even as she's unexpectedly drawn into a murder investigation that forces her to work alongside Benedict to unearth the truth. Soon, Vivian fears she may be falling in love with two men, never suspecting that they are one and the same.
My Review
Inventing Vivian is the second book in The Blue Orchid Society series. Book one, Solving Sophronia, tells the story of how Sophronia and her friends started the society. Personally, I'd read that book first before starting this second one. This second book is all about Vivian, who is very intelligent, a scientist, and an inventor. Even though she is a beautiful lady in high society, she is not concerned with frills. Vivian is way more interested in her inventions and sharing them with the world. Her life shifts, when a man from her past comes waltzing in.
Lord Benedict has recently returned from years away in China along with his good friend, Zhang Wei. Benedict was once mean and cruel to Vivian and tried to thwart her accomplishments in science. Life abroad has changed him in many ways making him a better man. I truly loved this character. You could see the incredible changes that had taken place in his life. His challenge was proving himself to his father, his friends, and especially to Vivian. With the novel being told from Vivan and Benedict's POV, there are many assumptions taking place about each other. I enjoyed "watching" these two characters open up, piece by piece, allowing each other to finally show their true selves.
Inventing Vivian shows the strength of a woman taking her place in a man's world during the Victorian Era. This novel also displays a son standing up to a domineering father and becoming a man. Together, Vivian and Benedict join forces to bring about change, stand up for justice, and finally allow their hearts to open up enough to find love.

-Whose story is next in The Blue Orchid Society?
Hazel is next.
-Out of all of the women in the Blue Orchid Society, who do you most relate to?
I think Sophronia is the one I relate to best. She’s the one I’m probably most like. What about you?
{My Answer}I'm not sure. I think I have the determination of Sophronia, and love learning things like Vivian but I'm not as smart as she is!
-Do you have a favorite time period you like to write about the most?
I guess it depends on my mood. Lately I’ve just been in love with the Victorian Era. But I also really love American History—like frontier stories. So maybe I’ll look into doing something in that time period. And I guess it’s probably the same time period, now that I think about it, right?
-Do you have any say in the covers of your books? They have been some of my favorite covers to come out in the past few years.
I don’t have a lot. They picked out the Sophronia one and I gasped when I saw it. It’s perfect! They showed me a few different ones for Vivian, but one dress was the wrong style for the time period, and I really wanted the covers to go together in a pretty set. So, I have no idea what they’ll do for the others… I’m excited to see, though.
-That's so interesting! It's always going to be a surprise for you and your readers. Covenant's been hitting it out of the park when it comes to their covers.
They really have! Their designers are fantastic!
-Thanks for taking the time to "talk" to me! 😀😀😀
Anytime!
