In an emotionless world, tears are a precious commodity, valued for their magic and sold on the black market. When Ambry stumbles across a vial of these enchanted tears, she finds herself the target of not only the tyrannical Arcaian army, who is stealing her people’s magic left and right, but of handsome, battle-scarred Talon Haraway, who seeks the tears for his own personal vengeance.
Ambry soon realizes the reason for their interference: these tears are the most powerful ever shed. They are the key to saving her people and rescuing her brother and others who've been taken by the Arcaians. With the Arcaian army threatening her every move, and Talon attempting to take the tears from her, Ambry must keep the tears safe at all costs. Her people need them. Her brother needs them. She needs them.
And they need her.
With bold twists, a riveting world of magic-powered technology, and a slow-sizzle romance, find out why readers are calling Such a Secret Place “totally original!”
Top Ten List:
1. If you had 3 wishes, what would they be?
-Hermione's Time Turner
-Unlimited supply of books of my choosing
-Extra Saturdays every week
2. Where do you write?
It depends. I do have an office, but I also like to be where my kids
are. So I'll take a notebook and just scribble wherever they're playing, and
then I add it into my computer later.
3. How long does it normally take you to write a
novel?
Depends on the novel. If it's fantasy with extensive world-building,
usually several months to a year. If it's contemporary, I've written a novella
in a month.
4. What are your inspirations?
My kids, great movies, great books, people watching, my past
experiences, my daydreams. ;)
5. How did you come to write this particular book or
series?
I was listening to a song while driving one day, and the thought just
popped into my head--what if tears were MAGICAL? And it took off from there!
6. What was the hardest part of writing your book, and
how did you overcome it?
So many people asked very relevant questions that made me dig deeper
into the world. I just had to let go of pride and answer them and tweak and
tweak and tweak some more!
7. What is your writing drive? The power that keeps
you going when your writing gets difficult?
I love it. And I think that's it, I want to do my very best at it. So
disappointments or supposed "failures" are actually very motivating
for me to do better.
8. How did you come up with the title?
It's from Antoine de Saint Exupery's "The Little Prince."
There's a quote that I had to obtain special permission to use, actually:
"It is such a secret place, the land of tears."
9. Name one entity that you feel supported you outside
of family member?
Writing friends and critique groups!
