Book Description:
After surviving an abusive marriage, Victoria Newel needs a clean
slate for herself and her son. Taking a job as a math teacher, she moves
across the country to the small town of Lincoln, Utah, where no one
knows her and she can start over. However, her new colleague, Drew
Dalton, offers her friendship and maybe something more. But has her
heart healed enough that she could trust again?
Drew Dalton lost his wife to cancer years ago and he locked his heart
away, throwing himself into his teaching job. But when Victoria Newel
starts working at the high school, she awakens something in him that he
never thought he’d feel again. Her gentle nature and quiet strength
draws him to her, but it’s obvious she’s hiding something in her past
from him. Can he open his heart to a woman who harbors so many secrets
of her own?
My Review:
Love's Broken Road is Author Julie Coulter Bellon's new book. I've read and reviewed other books by this author and loved them. Before, she's written books with action, suspense and romance. Her new book has Romance, but also deals with some very strong themes of dealing with abuse, grief and moving on in life. She dealt with all of these tough subjects in a fabulous way.
There are two main characters trying to heal and find each other but struggle trusting and loving again. I loved both Tori and Drew and of course her son Cal. The romance worked because even though they were so attracted to each other from the beginning, it wasn't perfect and they had to grow and change for awhile before getting together. I liked the realism that made this story one that many people will be able to relate to. There were so many things that grabbed at your heart and you ached right along with Tori trying to get over being in an abusive marriage and Drew learning to let his late wife go and love again. This story is not all angst, as there is also humor and fun sequences as Drew was bonding with Tori's son.
This romance will lift your heart, and restore your faith in the power of hope and love. Well done Julie on stretching your wings and writing a romance that dealt with such sensitive topics, but proving that with love and time happiness can happen for anyone despite all odds.
