The Fall of Lord Drayson by Rachael Anderson
Who is he really? A high and mighty lord or a lowly servant?
When Colin Cavendish, the new earl of Drayson, informs Lucy Beresford that she and her mother need to vacate the house they've called home for the past two years, Lucy is fit to be tied. They have no money, no relations they can turn to for help, and nowhere to go. How dare the earl break the promise his father had made to the Beresfords without so much as a twinge of conscience?
Fate plays her hand when Lucy discovers the earl unconscious and injured in the middle of the road. When he awakens with no recollection of who he is, Lucy seizes the opportunity to teach the earl a much-needed lesson in humility and tells him that he is nothing more than a mere servant. Her servant, in fact.
And thus begins the charming tale of a pompous lord and an impetuous young woman, caught together in a web so tangled that it begs the question: Will they ever get out?
Excerpt
He stared at her incredulously, as though she had escaped Bedlam. “Are you in your right mind, woman?”
Lucy leaned forward and planted her palms on his bed so that her eyes were level with his. “My name is Lucy Beresford. I have lived in Askern all my life. I’m the sole daughter of a vicar and a seamstress who lived most happily despite their differences in station. When my father passed away, I came here, to this dower house. So yes, I am in my right mind. It is you who are not.”
The earl’s jaw clenched, and Lucy took some pleasure at the sight. Perhaps he would come down off his high horse and show at least a small amount of kindness or respect.
“I may not know who I am or where I came from,” he finally said, “but at least I do not feel the need to tell tales.”
“Tell tales?” Lucy gaped at him. Was he accusing her of telling untruths? Her, of all people? What untruths? How dare he!
Lord Drayson glanced down at his fingers, frowning when he spotted grime under his nails. He began to scrape it out as he spoke. “Claiming to be the daughter of a vicar and seamstress is all very romantic, but it cannot possibly be the truth.”
“And why not?” she asked.
His gaze returned to hers. “In my experience, the daughter of a vicar would behave with more decorum, would know how to make a palatable broth, and would never allow herself to be alone in a room with a man who is not her relative. If there is one thing I know with absolute certainty, it is that you are no relation of mine.”
Lucy’s jaw clenched as she fought to control the rage building inside her. Ever so slowly, she pushed herself up to standing and glared down at the earl. “You are correct in thinking I am no ordinary vicar’s daughter. I do not love unconditionally. I show decorum only when I wish to. And I despise those who care for no one but themselves. But I do not tell tales.”
He actually chuckled, but it was more of a scoff than a show of humor. “Did you learn those traits from your father?”
“Do not speak of my father.”
“I would prefer to speak of myself, but you do not seem to share that preference, so perhaps we should speak of your father instead. Where is he, by the by? I would very much like to meet him.”
Lucy’s fingers became fists while her conscience became a battleground between all that was good and evil inside her. It was a short battle, with evil making a quick triumph.
Ever so slowly, her body still trembling with anger, she lifted her chin. If he was going to accuse her of telling tales, then tell them she would. “Very well, Collins. If you must know, I am your employer. And though you may not remember me, or this house, or your position in it, or the fact that you are perfectly susceptible to coming off a horse, just like any other human, I still expect some kindness and respect from you.”
“What on earth are you talking about? What position?”
There was not a hint of hesitation in her voice when she answered. “You are a servant in this house.”

Book Blitz for A Chaotic Courtship by Bethany Swafford
For
as long as she can remember, Bethany Swafford has loved reading books. That
love of words extended to writing as she grew older and when it became more
difficult to find a ‘clean’ book, she determined to write her own. Among her
favorite authors is Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Georgette Heyer.
When
she doesn’t have pen to paper (or fingertips to laptop keyboard), she can
generally be found with a book in hand. In her spare time, Bethany reviews
books for a book site called More Than A Review.

Book Description
Let my people go ...
A plea has been made in behalf of the children of Israel. Now comes the epic climax years in the making—the final showdown between two of the most powerful men in history—one fueled by pride, the other guided by the world of God. Moses has received an extraordinary call from the Lord: he is to lead the exodus of the Hebrew people out of Egypt, ending generations of bondage. And he must return to the land of his birth to boldly petition a man he does not want to challenge ... or lose to: Ramses—pharaoh of Egypt. Ramses, harboring years of feeling betrayed by his best friend, is determined to stop Moses no matter the cost. He will not yield, even as a dark veil of plaques and pestilence descends over the land of Egypt.
What follows is a powerful chronicle of the struggles of the children of Israel as they traverse uncharted territory, both physically and spiritually. Amid the horrific catastrophes devastating their land and through the dramatic evens that follow, the Hebrews must face their fears and their faltering faith. For even in the darkest of times, there are manifestations of the Lord's constant care to inspire their hope for a bright future.
My Review
This series has so far been great! I didn't know how book two and three could be as good as book one, but both have been just as good or even better. If you read my reviews you know I love books written by H.B. Moore (Heather B. Moore), just alone for the fact that she is an amazing writer. She writes realistic historical characters that are brought to life in a big way. Her research is clearly shown in her novels as the setting and the background shine in the story. You feel like you are there and can see and smell everything.
In this third book Moses is trying to set his people free with his brother, Aaron's help. I loved getting to know this character, but the story is told from many people's viewpoint. This added so much more to the story being able to see things from the perspective of the Egyptian Pharaoh Rameses, Moses, and his wife. I am thoroughly enjoying seeing this Bible story brought to life. It was especially intriguing to see how H.B. Moore wrote about the plagues and pestilence which came to the Egyptian people, even though I've read about them for years, this added to the depth of drama and excitement in the story.
If you are looking for a great series to read, with book four still to come, The Moses Chronicles is one I highly recommend. This book is read quickly, because frankly you'll not want to put down this fast paced novel.

Thirty-Four Going On...Bride by Becky Monson: $100 Book Blast
Julia Dorning is about to lose it. Between her over-the-top wedding that her sister, Anna, took upon herself to create, and the under-staffed popular bakery that she runs, she can barely find time to breathe.
All Julia ever wanted was a quaint wedding on the beach with family and friends. But now Julia has to contend with not only her sister's plans, but those of her future mother-in-law, as well. Not wanting to step on anyone's toes, especially her mother-in-law's, Julia just goes along with it.
She can only take so much, though, and when her newest employee, Kate, makes things harder at the bakery, Julia has to find a way to simplify her life.
Can she do it or will she end up a basket case? Find out how she does it in this hilarious conclusion to the Spinster series!
By day, Becky Monson is a mother to three young children, and a wife. By night, she escapes with reading books and writing. In her debut novel, Becky uses humor and true-life experiences to bring her characters to life. She loves all things chick-lit (movies, books, etc.), and wishes she had a British accent. She has recently given up Diet Coke for the fiftieth time and is hopeful this time will last... but it probably won't.

Excerpt
“Pick it up, Julia! You can do this!”
I’m in the seventh circle of hell.
“Come on! Let’s move faster!” My sister Anna yells over the construction that we’re currently passing. As expected, we get a few whoops and whistles tossed at us from the workers. Pity flattery, I’m sure. Well, maybe not for Anna, but certainly for me. There’s absolutely nothing attractive about me right now.
To start, I don’t know if I’ve ever sweated this hard in my life. I look like I’ve taken a shower fully clothed. I’m sticky and perspiring, and it’s not even that hot outside. It’s a typical day near the end of May in Denver, Colorado. How did I let Anna convince me to do this? Oh that’s right, there was no convincing. She forced me. “It’ll be good for you,” she had said, lying through her devil teeth.
At this point I don’t know if my lungs will ever be the same. They actually ache with pain. And then there’s the ache in my calves, and really every other part of my body. Whoever thought of running as an extracurricular activity should be shot. A form of torture, yes. Exercise? I’d rather get a tooth pulled without Novocain.

I Can Forgive with God compiled by Ganel-Lyn Condie-BLog Tour Review and Giveaway
-Title: I Can Forgive with God:
Stories of Healing from Mormon Women
Stories of Healing from Mormon Women
-Author: Ganel-Lyn Condie
-Genre: LDS Inspirational Non-fiction
-Publisher: Covenant Communications (August 1, 2016)
- ISBN#: 978-1-52440-045-3
-FTC, FYI: I received a review paperback copy in exchange for an honest review.
Book Description:
Are unresolved feelings of anger, resentment, and guilt keeping you from living your best life? It's time to let go of the pain and make the life-changing decision to forgive. A stirring new work from bestselling author Ganel-Lyn Condie, I Can Forgive with God features the personal accounts of an incredible group of women who have harnessed the power of forgiveness after enduring the furnace of affliction. from divorce and death to addiction and abuse, these sisters' experiences are linked by one common truth: the power of absolution is available to all through hard work and faithful reliance on our loving Heavenly Father.
The women spotlighted in these stories have come face-to-face with devastating tragedies and trials, ultimately learning to forgive those who have hurt them—including themselves. With the help of this book, you too can find strength in the Lord—the giver of grace—to see your mistakes and others' through the lens of forgiveness.
My Review:
I was very interested in reading this story about forgiveness. I've been trying hard to practice forgiving ever since my husband left me and my kids almost eight years ago. There were many days when I struggled not to let bitterness overcome me. Things have gotten better and I have learned to forgive him, but I'm always looking for additional ways to help me. By reading other women's stories and how they were able to learn to forgive was a very healing experience. As one woman said, forgiving doesn't always mean forgetting and it takes time. Not only do you gain insight about how to forgive others, but better yet you gain knowledge about how to forgive yourself in dealing with life's trials and tragedies.
One thing I really loved in the book is what the author said about Forgiveness...
"Forgiveness is an inside job. That work can't be observed, and we don't see the struggle that accompanies this private path."
Those words are so true because often people wear masks and we don't see what they are going through in their lives. We can't judge others and we just need to forgive and let it go. I know that this is hard, believe me, I know. In order to find true happiness and healing though we must go through this process.
The stories in this book cover many topics such as:
- Moments of Truth
- Marriage/Divorce
- Parenthood
- Sexual Abuse
- Looking Past the Past
Meet Author Ganel-Lyn Condie:

Beauty and the Clockwork Beast by Nancy Campbell Allen -- Blog Tour Review
Title: Beauty and the Clockwork Beast
Author: Nancy Campbell Allen
Publisher: Shadow Mountain
Published: August 2, 2016
ISBN13: 9781629721750
Paperback: 352 pages
FTC FYI: I received a paperback copy in exchange for an honest review.
Book Description:
Jane Eyre meets Beauty and the Beast.
When Lucy Pickett arrives at Blackwell Manor to tend to her ailing cousin, Kate, she finds more than she bargained for. A restless ghost roams the hallways, werewolves have been reported in the area, and vampires lurk across the Scottish border. Lord Miles himself is clearly hiding a secret. He is brash and inhospitable, and does not take kindly to visitors—even one as smart and attractive as Miss Pickett. He is unsettled by the mysterious deaths of his new wife, Clara, and his sister, Marie. Working together, Miles and Lucy attempt to restore peace to Blackwell Manor. But can Lucy solve the mystery of Miles? Can she love the man—beast and all?
My Review
I knew from the very beginning of this book I was going to love it! It has a mixture of mystery, steampunk, Gothic romance and paranormal elements like ghosts, vampires and werewolves and shape shifters. You might wonder, how do all of these things mix together? I would say, they blend together very well!
I loved main character Lucy Pickett because she was confident and no damsel in distress. Within the first 100 pages Lucy has met the male main character, the good looking, but beastly acting Miles. I laughed when she described the only kind of woman who could handle Miles...
" That man would require a woman who could hold her own with him, someone who wouldn't back down from the bulk of his physically intimidating stature and the even more intimidating personality housed within it. Heaven help any woman not equal to the task."
Lucy basically describes herself, and readers soon see she is exactly the kind of woman that Miles needs. They of course don't see this at first, but when the attraction starts happening you will be totally hooked. The first dance they have together radiates great tension and the sparks start flying. These are such wonderful characters and I know that you're going to love them too! They are witty, smart and strong, each respectively.
There are many things that are happening at Blackwell Manor and Lucy tries to figure out why her cousin Kate has become ill after only a few months of marriage to Miles younger brother Jonathan. Without giving away all of the plot, which I truly detest when reviewers do that, just know that there are no dull moments in this book. Lucy and Miles work together to figure out the many mysteries that are plaguing Blackwell Manor. Some may figure out quickly who is behind the mayhem and mysterious deaths, but others it may take awhile.
I thoroughly enjoyed Beauty and The Clockwork Beast with it's blend of genre's that wound up being my perfect cup of tea..I mean the perfect book to read. I give this book 5 stars and applaud it's author on writing such a well written and blended story with memorable characters. I hope she writes more books within this series.

Always You (A Magnolia Falls Novel) By Ruth Roberts-Book Blast and $50 Giveaway
Always You by Ruth Roberts
After tragedy strikes, Diana Mathison finds herself back in her home town of Magnolia Falls, sharing custody of her baby sister with her step sister. Reeling from the death of their parents, the three sisters have to learn how to lean on each other and live life without their two pillars of strength. Diana is full of doubts in her ability to raise a little girl and run her father’s law firm. The last thing she needs is to have Zack Connelly back in her life. The last time she let him in she ended up hurt and broken hearted.
Zack has given up on true love. It’s not for him and it’s certainly not with Diana Mathison. He came back to Magnolia Falls to heal after losing his sweet wife and their unborn child at the hands of a drunk driver. Hannah never had a chance at the love and happiness she deserved, therefore neither should he. His life plan is to take care of his sister and niece for as long as they need him, and to be the best veterinarian the town has ever had. That’s enough for him…or is it?
Excerpt
He handed her a glass of red wine then busied himself at the stove with dinner. Diana watched him as she slowly sipped the wine. She enjoyed watching the muscles on his back stretch the fabric of his shirt when he bent over. A perusal of the view further down was even better.
He closed the oven, turned, and looked at her. A smile played on his lips as he slowly walked to her. He had caught her staring at his very sexy backside. “Miss Mathison, I do believe you were checking me out,” he said.
She held his piercing gaze. “And what if I was?”
He wrapped his arms loosely around her waist. “I have absolutely no objections. However, I’d say that entitles me to at least a kiss.”
“That sounds like a fair trade.” She wrapped her arms around his neck. He leaned down and captured her lips in a slow, teasing kiss meant to set her on fire. She was certain that was his goal because she felt herself being slowly consumed by heat only Zack could evoke in her. If he could do this to her with a kiss, she was afraid of what would happen if he made love to her. She’d probably go up in flames leaving a pile of ashes in his bed. That thought made her smile, almost making her laugh.
“Do you find my kisses laughable?” He asked.
“Not even remotely,” she said.
“Dare I ask why you were smiling when I was kissing you?”
She shook her head. “Believe me, you don’t want to know—well, maybe you would. But I’m not telling.”
“Ah, so it was something good. A fantasy that included me perhaps?”
Just then the timer on the oven began beeping. “Saved by the bell,” she said, lifting her glass of wine to her lips.
He shut off the timer and pulled dinner out of the oven and set it on the counter. “You aren’t getting off that easy. I’ll find out. Question is, should I use bribery or coercion?” He asked.
“Go for bribery,” she replied, outrageously.
“In that case—” He lifted a small bite of filet mignon to her lips with his fingers. She took the bite he offered, it tasted better than anything she ever had, possibly because it also had a taste of Zack.
“That is delicious. Anymore of that and you’ll soon have me revealing all my thoughts to you.”
“I want to know your thoughts, especially if they include me. I want to know what’s in your heart, particularly if there is a place for me. Because my thoughts and my heart are filled with you. Only you. Always you.”
Author Ruth Roberts
