{Book Details}
Italy, 1943—Germany occupies much of the country, placing the Jewish population in grave danger during World War II.
As children, Eva Rosselli and Angelo Bianco were raised like family but divided by circumstance and religion. As the years go by, the two find themselves falling in love. But the church calls to Angelo and, despite his deep feelings for Eva, he chooses the priesthood.
Now, more than a decade later, Angelo is a Catholic priest and Eva is a woman with nowhere to turn. With the Gestapo closing in, Angelo hides Eva within the walls of a convent, where Eva discovers she is just one of many Jews being sheltered by the Catholic Church.
But Eva can’t quietly hide, waiting for deliverance, while Angelo risks everything to keep her safe. With the world at war and so many in need, Angelo and Eva face trial after trial, choice after agonizing choice, until fate and fortune finally collide, leaving them with the most difficult decision of all.

{My Review}
I've never read anything from Amy Harmon before, but after reading From Sand and Ash, I'll be reading a lot more. I read this book very quickly. It literally is hard to put down. It's a story that takes place in Italy during World War II. The story is about two people Eva, a Jewish girl, and her close family friend she grew up with Angelo Bianco,  a Catholic, American boy, being raised by his Italian grandparents.

Everything about this story is mesmerizing, from the beautiful lyrical writing style to the flat out reality and harshness of what Hitler and the Nazis did to the Jewish people and those that were brave enough to try and help them. This book is about good and evil, survival and death, helplessness and hope, and making hard choices that can define your life and those around you.

The beauty of this story contrasts so much with the ugliness of war and persecution, that at times you forget to breathe while reading. The love story is also so heartwrenching you want to fall down into a puddle of tears. From Sand and Ash is a book that you'll keep reading all night long. I know for me, Eva and Angelo's story will stay with me even longer

A Place for Miss Snow by Jennifer Moore-Book Review

A Place for Miss Snow by Jennifer Moore
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

{Product Details}

  • Paperback: 224 pages
  • Publisher: Covenant Communications, Inc. (September 1, 2016)
  • Language: English
  • Genre: Historical Romance

{Book Details}
Miss Diana Snow is everything a British chaperone should be—she finds satisfaction in order and depends wholly upon the rules of decorum as she negotiates the isle of Greece with her young charge. But Miss Snow's prim and proper exterior masks a disquieting past: orphaned and alone in the world, she has only her stiff upper lip to rely on. When a brief encounter with a handsome stranger challenges her rules of propriety, Diana is unwittingly drawn into an adventure that will turn her ordered world upside down.

Alexandros Metaxas is a Greek spy working to recruit individuals to the cause of revolution. His mission seems to be going perfectly until he encounters Diana Snow, a captivating—if slightly cold—beauty. When their paths cross again, the ill-fated reunion threatens all Alex has been fighting for. But more importantly, it places Diana's life in jeopardy. There is only one way to save her: they must put themselves at the mercy of the most powerful pirate family in the Mediterranean. Soon, Diana is plunged into a fantastic world of gypsy curses, blood feuds, and unexpected romance. But when a bitter vendetta places her in mortal danger, will she have the courage to fight for life and love?

{My Review}

I loved this historical, romance book set in Greece. It was very different from other books written by Jennifer Moore,
but It was a fresh and interesting change. I learned many new things about the Greek people and their history.

The story is full of adventure, action and moments of inspiring change and growth in the main characters. It was nice to see a different setting in a book taking place during the early 1800's. This isn't your typical Regency Romance, so don't go into it thinking that and then be disappointed with the author. I really liked the change of scenery and people and felt it was nice to get out of the drawing room and ballrooms of Regency England. I loved getting to know Alex and Diane and see how both of their hearts were changed from their experiences with the people of a small Mediterranean village and from getting to know each other.

Sprinkled With Love by Jennifer Faye-Book Blast and $50 Giveaway

{Sprinkled with Love by Jennifer Faye}
What does one do with a matchmaking cat named Romeo? Spirited and beautiful, Jillian Parker is one of Marietta’s newest business owners. Still, her mother worries about Jillian’s bare ring finger. So in order to give her mother something else to fuss over, Jillian adopts a cat named Romeo. He turns out to be anything but a docile lap cat. One snowy night, Romeo makes a break for it. With Jillian right on his heels, they have a near miss with a passing pickup driven by Avery Wainwright, one of Jillian’s closest friends. A rodeo accident has the sexy cowboy returning home to recuperate, and he’s not happy about it. So when Avery finds himself lassoed into the Bachelor Bake-Off, he turns to the one person who has always helped him out—Jillian. But will teaching him to take chances outside of the show ring have them both discovering that their feelings for each other run much deeper than they ever imagined?

           EXCERPT: Avery stopped petting the cat and sat up straight. Alarm bells rang loud and clear. His sister had tried more than once to set him up on blind dates. He’d successfully avoided all of them. He wasn’t about to get caught up in Beth’s matchmaking now. “I’m not going on any blind dates.” His tone was firm. “Okay. But I haven’t set you up.” He swallowed hard. “Then what exactly have you arranged for me?” “Why do you sound so worried?” “Because I am. You don’t exactly have the most conservative plans. And you do know that I’m not as mobile as I’d like to be.” “You worry too much. Sometimes you act more like our father than our brother. You really need to loosen up and act your age.” In truth, he did feel quite a few years beyond his biological age. After all, he’d been a guardian to his brother and sister since they were twelve. For six years, he’d been raising them. And those teenage years were not easy. His sympathies went out to his parents over what he’d put them through. He’d had no idea of the worries that were involved in parenting. He was not planning to repeat the experience—ever. “Enough with picking on me,” he said. “What exactly have you done this time?” “Something that will keep you from sitting at home and sulking over missing out on the rodeo—” “Beth,” he prompted. His patience was at an end. “I entered you in the Bachelor Bake-Off.”

The Rise of Miss Notley By Rachael Anderson- Book Blast and $50 Giveaway

the-rise-of-miss-notley-gr
{The Rise of Miss Notley by Rachael Anderson}

When Miss Coralynn Notley’s father barters her off to the first titled gentleman to come along, she realizes she must flee her home or be forced to wed a despicable man. Driven by desperation, she applies for the position of housekeeper at Tanglewood Manor, the home of the handsome Mr. Jonathan Ludlow. The moment Jonathan sees Miss Notley, he is intrigued. She is far too young and inexperienced, yet there is something about her that that inspires a certain hope within him. Does he dare offer her the position of housekeeper or will doing so result in catastrophe?

{Excerpt}
Cora nodded and followed Mr. Ludlow into the parlor. He closed the doors and stood in front of them with his arms folded, looking far more intimidating than he had during their last meeting. He said nothing, merely lifted an inquiring eyebrow and waited.
Caught unprepared, Cora stared at him, trying to organize her thoughts into words. After a few moments of awkward silence, he lost patience. “What is it you wished to speak with me about, Mrs. Notley? Or are we to stand here staring at each other all afternoon?”
Not knowing how else to begin, Cora blurted, “Why have you hired me, sir?”
He blinked a few times before frowning. “I believe I have made that perfectly clear. You are to be the housekeeper, are you not?”
This was going to be more difficult than she had imagined. “Yes, of course, but there has been some talk about, or rather concerns expressed . . .” How did one put this delicately?
“About . . .?” he prodded, obviously not thrilled that his morning regime had been waylaid.
“About the reasons I have been offered the position,” she quickly said, hoping that would be enough to make him understand her meaning.
Unfortunately, his brows drew together in confusion. “What are you saying, Mrs. Notley? I have hired you to do certain duties that will hopefully make my household run more smoothly. What other reason could I possibly have for offering you the position?”
“You have hired me to do a job I am untrained to do,” she said. “While I am grateful for the opportunity, I also find it necessary to clarify that I have come here to be a housekeeper and only a housekeeper. Even though I am young and . . .” Her voice drifted off. Had she almost referred to herself as pretty? Goodness, this was proving to be very awkward indeed.
“Beautiful?” he finally guessed, not looking at all pleased with the direction the conversation was taking.
“I was going to say not repulsive,” she fibbed.
“Very well,” he said. “Even though you are young and not repulsive . . .” He moved his hand in a circular gesture, urging her to finish her thought.
Cora straightened her shoulders and forced herself to continue. “I am not the sort of girl who would ever . . . fraternize with her employer.” Her face infused with heat, but she forced her gaze to remain steady.
“I see.” He walked slowly towards her, rubbing his chin with his hand. A few steps away, he stopped and eyed her quizzically. “Have I made any improper advances towards you?”
“No, sir.”
“Have I spoken to you in an unprofessional manner?”
“No.”
“Have I looked at you in a way that has made you feel uncomfortable?”
“No.” Cora suddenly wished she had not felt the need to clarify anything. He made her feel as though she had put the cart before the horse when what she had been trying to do was see that the cart and horse simply stayed in their proper places. Was that so wrong?
“Might I ask who, exactly, has led you to believe that I am the sort of man capable of—how did you put it? Fraternizing with my help?”
“I, er, would rather not say, sir.” Though Cora felt no loyalty towards Sally, she refused to bring Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd’s names into the conversation. “I did not mean to besmirch your name or cause any offense, Mr. Ludlow. I merely wanted to make my feelings on the matter clear.”
“And you have.”
“Good.” Cora dropped into a quick curtsy, anxious to get away. “I shall go and find Watts now.”
She was almost to the door when his voice stopped her. “Once again, you are attempting to scuttle away before we have completed our conversation.”
Slowly, she turned around and lifted her eyes to his. “I never scuttle, sir.”
“What would you call that rapid walk of yours?”
“A rapid walk.”

 Can a human heart overcome a demon soul?

When soul-eating demons overrun his world, Kaelis, a young seraph warrior, uses the Queen’s ring
to open a portal in space and flee with the infant heir to the throne, landing on earth. Unbeknownst to him, the demon leader, Nsark, follows through the portal, determined to devour the soul of every last seraph, especially the Queen’s heir. After Kaelis hides the baby, Nsark creates the ultimate weapon by fathering a half-human, half-demon: a soul-stealer’s child.

Sixteen years later, an attractive but awkward teen named James struggles to fit in with his peers. In a last-ditch effort, he
joins the school play, where he meets Lucy. Something deep draws them together, and their friendship reveals their hidden pasts: one is an angel, one is half-demon. Lucy and James find themselves pulled into an age-old war between their peoples. Hunted by relentless enemies, and grappling with deep-seated instincts and strange new powers, they must fight for their lives, their souls, and each other.

Can they overcome who they were born to be, or will one of them have to make the ultimate sacrifice for the other to survive?

*********************
{Excerpt}
James walked across the balcony. He gestured and the the French doors flew open. Thick mist crept inside, silent tendrils slithering across the floor of the bedroom.
Lucinda lay still on her bed, almost glowing in a brilliant white nightgown. Her fire-gold hair spilled all over the bed, framing her small, pale face.
I have hunted you for a very long time, James thought. And now here you are, alone and asleep.
Lucinda’s eyes fluttered, and James froze. When he felt sure she was asleep, he wrapped his black cloak around him and glided towards the bed. At last, it was time to savor the sweetness of her soul.
Beneath him, Lucinda’s chest rose, then fell in a relaxed, unconscious rhythm. He almost laughed aloud as the triumph welled inside him. And yet, deep down, he felt a tiny pang of regret. She was so beautiful. So peaceful. Like a slumbering angel.
He pushed aside the lingering doubts that flowed from his remaining tatters of humanity. Your soul will be mine.
Shivering with excitement, James bent over her bed, moving fast enough that his black curls fell across his face. He bared his fangs, hovering close enough to smell the sweet scent of her hair, her spicy perfume. Close enough to feel the warm breath wafting between her full, red lips. Close enough to devour her soul.
Lucinda’s eyes flicked open and met his. Dark emeralds, they glowed all the brighter against the pale silk of her skin.
A silent cry parted her lips and her eyes flared wide open, pupils darting back and forth. As confusion resolved into recognition, her eyes met his. The air between them seemed to crackle. A warm current shot from her eyes to his, and James felt a jolt somewhere inside.

{My Review}
Angels vs. Demons has been a big thing in literature the past few years. This everlasting battle between good and evil always makes for an interesting story. In The Soulstealer's Child, we have this battle going on first in another world that then switches to Earth.

The book starts with huge action scenes that pull the reader in instantly. The book is divided into four parts, some with more action than others. After Part One that almost has non-stop action, Part Two goes into a slower section where the two main characters are introduced, who happen to be high school students. We get to know James and Lucinda whose attraction to each other seems ethereal, which indeed turns out to be exactly that. Without giving it away, one is the child of the royal Queen of the Seraphs, where the other is the child of a demon and a human. Soon their attraction turns volatile and they are on the run from the demons who have entered our world.

This book is full of supernatural things and also things that keep the reader guessing. There is a lot of teenage angst, so be forewarned if you don't like that sort of thing. This book has two teens that are plunged into an adventure where they "thought" they were normal, but soon find out they are anything "But" normal. I liked the way the author has James and Lucinda grow up and learn to love and take care of others beside themselves. They also get a huge dose of humility and sacrifice as the story continues. Kudos to the author for writing such great parents for both James and Lucinda. They are portrayed as normal, loving parents that would do, and will do everything in their power to help their children. So often in YA books we don't see parents like this and it was very refreshing to me.

Overall, readers of fantasy, the supernatural and anything having to do with battles between Angels and Demons will like reading The Soulstealer's Child. The author has said on Goodreads that there will be another book in this series to help resolve the story because it was left with a little cliffhanger. I'll be anxiously waiting to read what happens to James and Lucy.

  {Book Description}
 Lieutenant Commander Cooper Lane has so much to live for. With a loving husband and beautiful baby girl waiting for her back home, she is anxious to finish her mission in Afghanistan and return to her family. But in a split second, her world shatters. Her helicopter is going down in that hostile country, and there will be no survivors.

{Four years later} . . .
On a covert mission in an Afghan village, Navy SEAL Axe Talbot finds something no one ever expected: Lieutenant Cooper Lane—alive. Cooper survived the crash that killed her team and has been hiding behind enemy lines for four years. It's the woman he's been looking for and dreaming about for so long.
After her rescue, Cooper is not sure she can survive the reality waiting for her back home—when she disappeared and was pronounced dead, her husband married her best friend. Cooper is lost, but her troubles are just beginning. In one horror-filled moment, her former husband is murdered before her eyes, and Cooper becomes the prime suspect. Now she must embark on one last mission to clear her name. And there are only two people she trusts to help her: her father and Axe, the SEAL who rescued her. Cooper and Axe take off, and together the makeshift team uncovers a trail of mysterious deaths that leads to unimaginable danger.

{My Review}
Breach of Trust was gripping from the first three pages. Once you start reading this book, good luck putting it down. Sleep goes out the window as you become enthralled in the world of political conspiracy, blackmail and the ravages of war and PTSD.

This novel is about decorated war hero, Cooper Lane, who goes from happiness serving her country and marrying her husband Tom and giving birth to a baby daughter, to her life exploding in a ball of fire where she is presumed dead in Afghanistan. After living there four years under cover, saved by locals, she is rescued by Navy Seal Axe Talbot. Once she comes home she hopes for peace, but there won't be any of that for Cooper. One thing after another happens that drops Cooper and Axe into a series of threats and mysteries, where they only have days to solve the mayhem they've landed in.

I've read most of the books Kathi Oram Peterson has written and this book is one of the best. This tale is written with intense rounds of action and intrigue. The story is also brilliantly told in flashbacks from scenes of war and is woven into present day happenings. As Cooper and Axe try to figure out the messy business that has become her life, their feelings for each other come to the surface.

This novel will not only entertain you, but also pull you into the story and you'll feel like your watching a movie. The main characters are real and endearing and win you over from the start. Readers will be captivated until the last chapter as they, along with Cooper and Axe, try to unravel the great web of deceit found within the pages of Breach of Trust. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and happily give it 5 stars*****!

Pulled reluctantly into women’s ministry nearly four decades ago, Lynn Watson now treasures the opportunities that were provided to lead, encourage and mentor women through relationships and Bible studies. She wrote a few of the studies, too. Drawing from those experiences, along with years serving others professionally in the complementary healthcare field and her love for essential oils, Lynn delights in bringing her readers freshly inspired insights drawn from and focused on the many fruits, plants, oils, and spices mentioned in God’s Word. Married since 1973, Lynn and Steve call Bartlett, Tennessee home. Their
home is filled with handmade treasures and lots of love for family, especially their five beautiful (of course) grandchildren.

Top Ten List:

        1.    Baking bread from freshly milled grain has become a bi-weekly ritual in our home. The aroma, the taste, and the nutritional value are impossible to beat.
2.    Weather permitting, a friend and I enjoy early morning bike rides. Gloria is my tangerine cruiser. She sports a 1970’s vintage leather purse for carrying little things like my phone.
3.    A queen at the age of 5, I also had two princesses to attend me. The local businessmen in our community held a parade. My dad and grandfather owned a construction company. My doll house sat on the float with us. A banner proudly announced, “We Build Homes Fit for a Queen.”
4.    My grandmother had a vintage stove in her basement just for making fresh donuts. I loved to help, but my grandfather and I were often accused of eating donuts faster than we helped make them.
5.    For my 60th birthday my husband gifted me a hot air balloon ride. It was a dream come true around my 61st birthday when we finally experienced the adventure!
6.    I love chocolate!
7.    Between kindergarten and high school graduation, I attended 16 different schools.
8.    For a costume party once as a child, I dressed as an organ grinder accompanied by my well loved sock monkey.
9.    There's little sun in my yard for growing veggies, but I always have an herb garden.
10. K-LOVE is my favorite radio station.
