The Christmas Project-the Movie: Blog Tour Giveaway and Review

 ABOUT THE MOVIE:

Even with Christmas around the corner, for the Buckley boys, payback almost always wins out over brotherly love. That is until the four brothers join forces against a common adversary—the Hagbarts—the meanest bullies at their middle school. But now Mom has decided that the Buckley family is going to Elve the Hagbarts this year for Christmas. Eleven-year-old Matthew can hardly stand it. By day the Hagbarts torture the Buckley brothers into submission, and by night the Buckleys secretly deliver Christmas treats and gifts to their sworn enemies. Soon the war of wits escalates to an incredible scheme designed to get the ultimate revenge on the Hagbarts. But now that Matthew has been learning that he's supposed to do good to those who hate him, what will he do when a little push becomes a great big shove? The Christmas Project is a heartwarming comedy the whole family will love.

My Review:
The Christmas Project DVD by Covenant Communications is a fun, new Christmas movie filled with humor, but also with a very wonderful message. It reminded me a lot of the book, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". It had much of the same humor and the same kind of family that seemed rough on the outside, but there was goodness hiding in the inside. I really loved it because the story is set in the 1980's. There were so many things I laughed at, and I appreciated the parents and the lessons they were trying to teach their children.

We all are trying to teach the true meaning of Christmas, which is giving of ourselves, and this movie showcases this sentiment over and over again. Even with the Hagbart children bullying the Buckley boys, in the end Matthew and his brothers learn that even with those who are hard to love, it's important to be kind and caring.

This movie is one that you'll want to share with your kids and grandkids. We love to watch Christmas movies all through December and this is one you'll want to buy and make a part of your movie watching tradition.

FTC, FYI: I was sent a link to preview the film for review

Camping in High Heels by Miki Bennett-Book Blitz and Giveaway

With a passion for wholesome adventure, Miki Bennett is the author of two contemporary women's fiction series - A Florida Keys Romance and Camping In High Heels. A deep love of the beach and life-long experience in the RV and camping world led her to write romance novels that bring humor and paradise to readers' finger tips.

Beyond her beautiful writing skills, she is an artist and craftswoman, and has earned numerous awards for such. Her stories touch the hearts of not only beach lovers and RVers, but those in the arts community and the crafts community.

Her talents and experiences truly run wide and deep. From being the self-called, resident family tech geek to her painting, crocheting and photogrpahy abilities to living with a chronic illness to having grown up and worked in a family business to becoming an author, Miki Bennett never has a dull moment.

She lives in Charleston, South Carolina with her husband, Jeff and their little dog Emma. They are a blended family with three grown children thus consider themselves empty nesters.

Miki also lives with a rare, incurable, invisible illness called Mastocytosis in which patients can have life threatening allergic type reactions to the simplest of things. She is also a cancer survivor after undergoing treatment for Uterine Cancer in 2002. She is now on a mission to help others who deal with “invisible diseases”: the patient looks fine to the outside world but can be dealing with debilitating symptoms - something that can be very stress producing for the patient both mentally and physically. How does a first-class, five-star, travel blogger widen her horizons? With a few words from one of her loyal readers.

Kate has always loved writing about the best in food, nightlife, and accommodations around the world. In fact, she’s never had to “rough it” in her vast array of travels. But that changes when she’s publicly challenged into hitting the road just like an average person.

Though terrified of everything she doesn’t know about camping, things become brighter when she bumps into fellow camper, Brandon. Seeming to run into one another at each campground, it gets harder for Kate to ignore the sparks between them.

As Kate travels west in her motor home, she experiences a brand new kind of adventure: tackling bathhouses, tarantulas, and even bats! But as she learns to appreciate the great outdoors, Kate starts to wonder if this might also be an adventure of the heart.

Snippet:

“I’m glad to see that you have confidence in yourself.  That is always a good thing when you are learning something new.  And I can tell that you have never own an RV or probably even slept in a tent,” Brandon said as he fell in step beside her.
“Why does everyone keep saying that? I feel like I’m display or something.”  Kate was now feeling embarrassed once more.
“Hey, at some point all of us were in your shoes.  Well, maybe not your high heels.”
Kate felt the color drain from her face.  He saw her last night.  Her wobbly, awkward walk to her camper. “What are you talking about?” she said feigning innocence.
“Last night I thought you were pretty drunk till I saw you all dressed up with those heels on.  It’s a wonder you didn’t sprain your ankle the way you were walking last night.  It seemed like you must have hit every piece of gravel on the road.”  Brandon chuckled once more and Kate blushed now as they continued their walk toward the store.

MAIL ORDER MIDWIFE by Kirsten Osbourne - Widowed midwife Patsy Lawrence spent too much time working and not enough with her young daughter. She knew Emily's childhood would be over before she realized it, so she responded to an ad for a mail-order bride, hoping for a better future for them both.
Dr. Wesley Hardy needed a wife to complete him, so he sent a letter to a mail-order bride agency back East, hoping to find someone compatible. When he received a letter from a widow with a young daughter, he was thrilled with everything but her profession. Could he live with the fact that his new bride was a midwife? Or would they be destined to live without love for the rest of their days?

A BROKEN WING by Amelia C. Adams - Bored beyond all reason while riding a train from Missouri to Colorado, Trinity Scott amuses herself by imagining things about the passengers around her, including the handsome man sitting across the aisle. With his dark curly hair and warm brown eyes, he’s certainly intriguing, and the fact that his arm is in a sling makes him all the more a curiosity.
But when three dangerous men board the train, her desire for adventure and excitement takes a sinister turn, and she must call on her inner strength to do what’s needed to survive.

THE MARSHAL’S REBELLIOUS BRIDE by Cassie Hayes - U.S. Marshal Curtis ‘Griff’ Griffith is on the trail of a wanted man. The last thing he needs is to be distracted by the newest resident of the Dalton Brothers Ranch. So why does he keep returning? It’s certainly not to see the beautiful-but-bullheaded Catherine James.
Catherine has no interest in men or marriage, but there aren’t many choices for single ladies to earn a living on a remote Texas ranch. When she discovers that she holds the key to capturing the outlaw — and collecting some of the reward — she doesn’t hesitate to force Griff’s hand.
Will they kill each other before they find the murderer, or will they risk their damaged hearts for a shot at a new life?

COURTING MISS CARTWRIGHT by Kristin Holt - Courtship, by the book, is supposed to be easy…
As the daughter of an unwed mother, Felicity Percival is accustomed to rejection. Her mother was her only family ... until she is summoned to the reading of her father's will. To learn he was a married preacher with a second daughter horrifies her. The stipulations attached to her inheritance infuriate her. The last thing she expects is the emergence of truths that destroy her life-long beliefs. The last thing she wants is to feel the blush of first love for a man she can't have.
The road to Happily Ever After should not be rocky, especially for level-headed, rule-following Rocky Gideon. His courtship of the minister’s daughter is successful and on track, surviving everything life throws at them … except the appearance of the preacher’s other daughter. Felicity asks too many questions, forces him to evaluate his carefully constructed plan, and somehow steals his heart.
Rocky desperately needs a solid marriage that will go the distance … so why does he yearn for the wrong sister?

WANTED: THE PERFECT HUSBAND by Margery Scott - Sybil Franklin needs a husband—fast! In order to keep her ranch, she must be married within thirteen days. Devin McGregor meets all her requirements and comes highly recommended, but he has no interest in marriage.
Devin McGregor had a ranch once, a fiancĂ©e, a future. He made a mistake, and it cost him everything. Now, even though he’d love to own his own land again, he’s afraid to risk failure.
Sybil decides to post an advertisement for the perfect husband. As Devin tries to protect her from being taken advantage of, his feelings for her grow, but his fear of failing her won’t let him accept her proposal.

Interview With Author Kirsten Osbourne

1. Describe yourself in 50 words or less.  I'm a forty-something mom of a crazy twelve year old boy, who loves to write above all else. I like to laugh and make others laugh, so my books all have some element of humor.
2. What do you love most in the world?  My family.
3. What do you fear most? Slowly losing my mind.
4. What is your largest unfulfilled dream, and what are you doing to reach it?  I want to go to England. To get there, I write many many books.
5. What is the hardest thing you've ever done? The hardest thing I've ever done is share my writing with the world. It's also the best thing I've ever done.
6. Now that we've gotten to know each other, tell me a story. It can be long or short. From your childhood or last week. Funny, sad, or somewhere in between. Just make sure it's yours. What's your story?  I went to an aquarium with my son and husband last week. There was a behind the scenes penguin excursion, and my family and I decided to try it, because I've always been a huge penguin fan. The people working at the aquarium warned us over and over not to make any sudden moves or be too loud. I followed every rule to a T. I kept my eye on the only baby penguin in the room, because he kept opening his mouth and lunging toward me. I would just carefully shift my legs out of his way. Finally, my son asked the caretaker some questions, and I was paying rapt attention to her answer, when I felt something chomp down on my right knee. I jumped and heard my husband shouting at the same time. I was bitten by a baby penguin. I don't know anyone else in the world who can say that, so I feel very special to have been the chosen snack of the day.

In HOLD THE LIFT by Aven Ellis, Sierra Crawford ends up meeting sexy British hockey player Jude Parker after their elevator sticks. Sierra finds herself getting to know Jude—and she likes what she sees. But he wouldn’t be interested in a food-obsessed assistant editor right? Sierra knows she’s quirky—her fondness of Magic 8 Balls is proof of that—so there’s no way he could look her way. Or can he?

In DOWN, THEN UP by Beth Labonte, Lauren Oswald never expected to see her college love, Jamie, again. Not after the way things ended. She certainly doesn’t expect to see him ten years later at a bachelorette party in Vegas, waiting inside a hotel elevator. Slightly older. Different haircut. No wedding ring. Same eyes. As the pair embark on a late night errand, Lauren is flooded with memories of how Jamie became the one that got away—and she realizes that this one night could be their last chance to make things right.

In GOING UP? by Whitney Dineen, Fiona Kitchen had a dream when she moved to New York and it wasn’t taking a job as an elevator operator in a posh, West Side, apartment building. She also didn’t expect to meet a hot handyman, a Columbian drug lord and a notorious mob boss and then fall for one of them in a big way. Life in the Big Apple isn’t quite turning out the way she planned, but who said that was a bad thing?

In Becky Monson’s TAKING A CHANCE, Liza Parker has a fear of heights, crowds and small spaces. So what’s a girl like her doing on a crowded elevator going to the top of the Empire State Building? Freaking out, that’s what she’s doing. Enter Jay Sanders, a tourist who thinks he might be able to help Liza face her fears, but she has to be willing to spend the day with a complete stranger. Maybe taking a chance on Jay is just what Liza needs.

In HAPPY TO BE STUCK WITH YOU by Rich Amooi, Becca has had an office crush on Daniel—Mr. Delicious—for over a year. Getting stuck in an elevator with him was the last thing she expected. If only she can control her claustrophobia. To make matters worse, they're also stuck with an eighty-year-old man who has a weak bladder, and a penchant for playing cupid. But life is unpredictable. Sometimes, getting stuck is the best thing that can happen. Computer genius Maisy Potter crosses an ocean to take her dream vacation at an English country estate … where the winsome Mark Prebys works below stairs. With him, Maisy discovers a carefree happiness she's never known. But will the troubles dogging her from back home, a secret or two whispered behind the parlour curtains, and misunderstandings to beat the band extinguish the magic they think they've found in each other? And if not, what happens when Maisy's enchanting holiday ends? Find out in UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS … AND THE LIFT IN BETWEEN by Geralyn Corcillo.

In THE ONLY WAY IS UP by Lindy Dale, Meet Bailey Burns: hottest thing on the literary circuit. And the most reluctant. After fainting in a lift and regaining consciousness to find herself kissing a stranger, Bailey thinks her week can’t get much worse. But it can. Much worse. Bailey is about to be proposed to by a crazed fan wearing a vampire costume. She’s about to discover she’s in relationship with the guy she kissed. Not only that, but said guy happens to be her new PR manager. Oh dear!

In OUT OF ORDER, by Dee Ernst, Grace has sworn off good-looking men. As soon as she starts dating one of them, she transforms from a mature, confident woman to a needy teen-aged girl. So when she meets Seth, the best-looking man she’s ever seen, she makes the right choice — forget all about him. But a neurotic golden retriever and a broken elevator keep bringing them together. Is the world working against her… or maybe the gods are finally smiling?

Madam President: The Secret Presidency of Edith Wilson by William Hazelgrove-Book Blast and Giveaway

Madam President
Madam President: The Secret Presidency of Edith Wilson by William Hazelgrove
After President Woodrow Wilson suffered a paralyzing stroke in the fall of 1919, his wife, First Lady Edith Wilson, began to handle the day-to-day responsibilities of the Executive Office. Mrs. Wilson had had little formal education and had only been married to President Wilson for four years; yet, in the tenuous peace following the end of World War I, Mrs. Wilson dedicated herself to managing the office of the President, reading all correspondence intended for her bedridden husband. Though her Oval Office authority was acknowledged in Washington, D.C. circles at the time--one senator called her "the Presidentress who had fulfilled the dream of suffragettes by changing her title from First Lady to Acting First Man"--her legacy as "First Woman President" is now largely forgotten. William Hazelgrove's Madam President is a vivid, engaging portrait of the woman who became the acting President of the United States in 1919, months before women officially won the right to vote.

Excerpt - Chapter One
The Cover-Up President Woodrow Wilson lay with his mouth drooping, unconscious, having suffered a thrombosis on October 2, 1919, that left him paralyzed on his left side and barely able to speak. The doctors believed the president’s best chance for survival was in the only known remedy for a stroke at the time: a rest cure consisting of total isolation from the world. His wife of four years, Edith Bolling Wilson, asked how a country could function with no chief executive. Dr. Dercum, the attending physician, leaned over and gave Edith her charge: “Madam, it is a grave situation, but I think you can solve it. Have everything come to you; weigh the importance of each matter: and see if it is possible by consultation with the respective heads of the Departments to solve them without the guidance of your husband.” From there, Edith Wilson would act as the president’s proxy and run the White House and, by extension, the country, by controlling access to the president, signing documents, pushing bills through Congress, issuing vetoes, isolating advisors, crafting State of the Union addresses, disposing of or censoring correspondence, and filling positions. She would analyze every problem and decide which ones to bring to the president’s attention and which to solve on her own through her own devices. All the while she had to keep the fact that the country was no longer being run by President Woodrow Wilson a guarded secret.
